Late BJ7- any close to mine? 25281

Well, I've got the TR3 sold, so I can focus on the Big Healey. I'm starting to get excited about the coming good weather- all tagged, insured, and ready to go.

I just ordered a British Heritage Trust Certificate, and it got me thinking about the other BJ7's out there. I think mine is fairly late, number 25281. Anybody else on board with a late BJ7?

Thanks, Jeff

Well Jeff I own a BJ7 also, #20191 that was built 17-28 August of 1962. Then dispatched 7 September '62, per the certificate. My car was sent to Dusseldorf Germany.

:yesnod: :yesnod: I hope everyone here has their car on the BJ7 registry?

I'm waiting until my British Heritage certificate arrives so I have build dates, etc. to submit. Just ordered it last night.

I have a Heritage certificate for mine which says that its chassis 21997 built 21-22 January '63 and shipped to RJ Evans and Kitchen, Birmingham UK.

Just curious, can anyone make a reasonable assumption just how many Healey's were made on a daily basis?

As I look on the Healey Data Site and see some of the build dates shown, I somehow come up with a factor of about 12 made per day.

FWIW, I was hopeful my BJ8 (#40121) was made on my birthday, month and day(Jan., 08) but in 1967, my birthday was on a Sunday so the best I can hope for is Monday, but may be more like made on a Tuesday or even Wednesday.

At some point, I will apply for a heritage certificate so the answer will reveal itself.

Still, it was a pleasant surprise to purchase a Healey that is only a couple of days away from my birthday. Karma, maybe? Or, I just hope it doesn't mean I was a headache to my family as the Healey can sometimes be to me!

Maybe more like breathing the words, "patience...patience."

In the Feb issue of Classic and Sports Cars magazine, Richard Graves, the former director of Jensen, said they "trimmed 120-130 Healeys a week". I think he was talking about the 1966/7 time period. I'm not exactly sure what "trimmed" means since I though Jensen only built the Healey body panels.

My research indicates that a total of 6113 BJ7’s were produced from January 1962 until October 1963. The BJ7 production numbers for January thru December 1962 is 2581 after completing 141 BN7’s in January. The BJ7 production numbers for January until October 1963 is 3532. In October 1963 the BJ8 production started.

As for determining the total BJ7 production per day build assuming a 50 week production schedule in 1962 ~52 BJ7’s built per week and also assuming a 5 day work week is ~10 BJ7’s per day. For 1963 BJ7 production assuming a 40 week production schedule ~88 BJ7’s built per week and also assuming a 5 day work week ~17 BJ7’s built per day.

The BJ7 per day total build is a SWAG due to not knowing the actual work production schedules for 1962 and 1963. The other SWAG is the model transition time for the end of the BN7 and the start of the BJ8. The total work hours per day/shift is also an unknown. From manufacturing experiences the calculated BJ7 daily build numbers are not unreasonable for a multiple shift operation.
