Help with 100-6 Oil Filter Canister Reassembly

Well, of course I took apart the oil filter cansister in my 100-6 to replace the cartridge and now I don't remember how all the parts go back together.

There is a small metal clip, a round saucer shaped steel piece with a circular indentation, a spring, a felt washer, long bolt and a metal washer. Oh and the canister of course. The new cartridge also came with a couple of black rubber seals.

Need help on how this all fits back together. Thanks much!

Hi 100/SF, Put bolt in canister first followed by spring, then small metal washer followed by the felt one then install the saucer shaped piece with the 'hump' facing up. Slide the small metal clip on the bolt shaft clear of the threads. Install proper sized gasket into grove in the head unit, install filter unit and bolt the two assemblies together.---Fwiw--Keoke

NOT meaning to sound rude but don't you have Service Shop Manual?? Moss catalog??

Now for a tid-bit for all (and you of course1006sf :smile:)
the felt washers being supplied and REQUIRED (model dependent) are WRONG!! You need to use at least 3 of them to equal the original thickness!!

I'll try to remember to take a pic or 2 and put up on my site for all.

Forgot to mention that the job is WAY easier if you take head and cannister assembly OFF the motor!!! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/angel.gif

I stock a couple dozen of the paper gaskets for just that reason!! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/thumbsup.gif

Can someone advise how to stop the leak at the bottom of the canisterfrom behind the bolt and washer. What type of "seal" or gasket can I use?

Hi Mark, check Moss motors catalog, there is a rubber seal that fits under the integral washer on the end of the shaft. They last along time but it is nice to have a spare on hand.--Keoke
