Hardtop Vents

There are at least two different styles of Vents for the hardtops that I can find.
One type installs from the headliner side and the other type installs on top of the hardtop.
The Vents are both flat and not curved and my question is how is the Vent installed on top of the hardtop fits against the hardtop since it is flat and not curved to match the hardtop?

You have a pic of my hardtop vent in your post . Check my on going thread for my Tri carb project , it’s all there . There’s a flat enough section where the vent fits that with a gasket the vent doesn’t need to be “curved” .
mine goes right through with a trim ring on the inner headliner .

The original vents were taken from the Austin/Morris Mini van parts bin….

My Hardtop is one for a BJ8 and I am not sure yours and mine have the same profile but I will check. The vents are supposed to be 3.125” from the hardtop trim strip edge to the edge of the vent. I assume you used a gasket between the
vent flange and hardtop?

I read it all this time.
It looks like I have about .125 at each end that needs to be closed up. What thickness did you find that works?

If you look carefully at the picture of Doug's car you'll see a row of holes he has drilled in the back window--done to relieve pressure from within the passenger compartment as well as to provide ventilation.

As to your original question, I have the type of vent that mounts to the exterior surface and there was no issue with its conforming to the shape of the top which is pretty much a flat section at the center.

I call them "speed holes" and have five of them drilled in the tail of my Ginetta G4 race car as shown in the attached pic--the theory being that high pressure builds up under the body at speed making the rear lighter. The more holes you have the faster you can go....
