Fuel tank sender - direction to install?

Hello gang.

I am replacing a defective fuel tank sender that was not providing proper resistance readings through the trvel of the unit's float.

I've been research all my sources and cannot find reference as to which direction in the tank the unit should be installed. Float facing the front, back side?

I honestly can't remember which way I took it off!

Hi Andrew,
The experts say that the float should face the front. I have tried it both ways & the gage jumps around less with the float facing toward the back. This is likely because with the float closer to the fore - aft center of the tank, the fuel sloshes cause less level change at this location.

There is a procedure to adjust the magnetic shunts in the dash unit to get the overall calibration pretty close. Note that two good grounds are required, one at the sender & one at the gage. A bad ground at the gage can cause about 3/8 of the scale change. Start here & follow it through:

The MGA gage is the same as the AH gage.

when i bought my car may 12 05 [my birthday]fuel guage was crazy just flipped it around[float facing fwd]and it worked just fine,they all have a bit of a 'slosh factor'its not as stable as say your average chevy impala!
