Extra rear light.

I just finished the conversion of the rear reflector to a turn/stop light. It was easy. I had read that the cutting of the rubber seals was to be a problem. I put them in the freezer for a couple of days and the drill went right through. This is a great improvement to visability from the rear and looks stock/original. Very exciting!

Tracy, I used the 20 watt, BA15D Bayonet bulbs and bayonet socket from Pureland Supply. (www.PurelandSupply.com) Part numbers C-88 and GBD. I used the narrow beam as I read the reflector disperses the light well. With shipping and parts the bill was $48.40. I bought new reflectors on E-bay (a bit cheaper than Moss) and replaced the new lens with the Lucas originals. It has nice new chrome and rubber. Fits well and looks perfect. This was as written-up in Healey Marque in May of this year by Charlie Baldwin. Thanks, Charlie!

This same modification can be done on the older BN1 - BN2's. Since the reflector pods are a separate part & the aluminum pods are closed on the surface under the reflector, an extra step of cutting a hole in this closed surface with a hole saw is required. Also a hole with grommet through the shroud for the wire.

The later model rubber housing, socket, & trim ring can then be fitted. A little work to cut the rubber to fit & hold the bulb, but it comes out looking the same as original. A high speed grinder (Dremel) works well to shape the rubber.

I used the MR11 10 watt, 30 degree bulbs with matching ceramic pigtail sockets. See attached pic.
