TR2/3/3A Extra holes in bulhead

I have 4 square holes in the horizontal piece of the bulkhead that get removable cage nuts put in them. There are 2 on each side of the battery box. Do I need to put a bolt into all 4 of them and that's it, or is there something else that needs done? Also in the passenger side footwell there are 4 welded cage nuts that have nothing in them, and I don't see anything that mounts to them. Do I put 4 bolts in them and call it good. I know some of the holes are used for right hand drive cars, but I see no use for any of these holes.

The 4 captive nuts are for the throttle pedal bracket on RHD cars. I don't know what the square holes are for, but I've just got bumper bolts in them.

Those useless looking square holes were for body jigs used to assemble the tub.

Circular rubber blanking grommets fill them nicely.

Thanks Randall and Viv for the information. Viv I would have never thought that the square holes were a part of the manufacturing process. Good idea with the rubber plugs.

Mallard - My 1958 TR3A came with black rubber blanking plugs brand new.

Although the bodies (except TR3B) were made over at Mulliners, a retired S-T design engineer living nearby in retirement explained the mystery of the square holes.

Apparently the body jigs had square pegs to accurately position the firewall components ready for welding.

A 1/2" rubber plug fits in those square holes perfectly, but not all 1/2" plugs are created the same. I'm almost positive I got the one that fit from TRF. But you could also easily put a carrige bolt painted black and no one would know the difference.
