Several years ago when I rebuilt my front end I made some solid mounts out of solid alumminum. I love them and I highly recommend them. The steering is crisp as it should be - not soft as it was from the factory.
Several of the usual suspects sell them as well.
The usual suspects are pretty proud of their mounts judging by the money they ask for them, aren't they? Did yours have the captive studs (a la the originals, and the solid mounts from Classic Jaguar), or did you alter the way it mounts?
If you make your own, as I did, you will find out that the price the usuals charge is a deal. I am retired with a nice shop so I enjoyed making them.
If you stare at the package for a while you will see that some of the mounting bolts should go all the way through the picture frame and others should be tapped into the solid mount itself.
I also used several socket head cap screws to hold the rack itself to the mount because then you could use an extension with a long hex and not damage the rubber boot during reassembly. I also used stainless steel on the bolts so that the next poor devil who takes it apart will thank me.
I agree they look tricky to make. I have access to a mill, and enjoy fabbing that sort of thing, but I'm not sure how much ambition I can drum up on these.
Classic Jaguar was the only place I could find that listed them. Anyone know of alternate sources? Terry's? XK's?
I think Terry's has them. But if not you may want to call Preditor Performance in Largo FL. Their number is 727-539-0218 and they use them on their race cars.

I'm using the CJ mounts, and they do provide crisper handling. However, there is more feedback through the steering, as well. But, this is not a deterent.
