TR6 Type-J Overdrive identification

I just picked up a Laycock J-Type overdrive, Model 27.115952, that was in a box of parts I bought at an auction and have not been able to find any information on it. Does anyone have the super-secret decoder ring that can tell me whether this is out of a Triumph, Volvo or something else? I'm deciding whether or not to mate it to one of the transmissions I have or sell it. How easy is it to adapt to a Triumph transmission? (I know I need an adapter, new mainshaft, speedo drive, wiring and an OD switch)

This should answer your question, think it’s a later J type (Volvo) as indicated by the “27”..

Most of the bits needed are hard to find. It is often necessary to buy a rusty hulk just to get
hands on an OD. Start hunting now or consider a W58 five speed conversion. Your car is
early enough that an A type is better as far as a bolt in. The J will need some welding on the frame
to fit. Not the end of world, but something to consider

I would point you to a small company in CT. Quantum Mechanics. John will be more that happy to give you the answers you need. I bought mine from him and actually had him convert my transmission completely to accept the J-type. From what I understand, the most obvious difference is the tail casting mounting. The Volvo type has angled mounting bosses while the TR mount is flat and bolts to the angled chassis cross mount. https://www.quantumechanics.com/

I think I'm going to sell it rather than use it.
