Disc Brake Parts List

Here's a list of the required items to convert a drum brake front to discs. This is from the BMC Special Tuning Book.
As it's a question that arises every so often, I offer it here.

Thanks, Jeff. I'm doing the conversion on the Spridget Project and have all the big stuff...but it's easy to forget the little items, 'til you need them.

I think I'll just scan the entire contents of the mechanical service parts list and Zip them to a folder, should anyone want one. The part numbers <u>may</u> be handy, but the illustrations are much better than you get in the manuals offered for sale.

I'm gonna see if my Moss guy can convert those numbers to Moss numbers...he's been able to do that in the past

I'm sure he can, Tony. They've got a much bigger data base than I do, and I can convert a good portion of them.

Tony it will cost a small fortune if you source the parts new, go find you a junker to rob most of the stuff off, I warn ahead of time it hard to find a good set of spindles, get them magnafluxed, (but not by the same guy who magged the cranks /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif also pay close attention to the condition of the area where the rest against the seal. Find as late a model Midget as you can, preferably post 69, they made the spindle out of better steel as time went on, with rubber bumper cars they made th spindle even out of better steel.

Yep, it would if a person were to do so...thankfuly, my little '63 Midget already has disc brakes!

I definitly agree with Hap and Tony!! Find a donor with decent parts and then up-date as needed!! That's how I did it and it was quite painless!!! (still have the BE drum brake front end if anyone is in need!!)

I agree 100% with Hap as well. The main reason I posted the list was that periodically someone asks what they will need to do the swap.
I remember one particular case in which the poster had just gotten calipers and rotors, and tried to install them on a stock Bugeye front end.
Needless to say, it didn't work.

Suffice it to say that one will need everything in the front suspension (sans shocks, though even they would be newer units on a DB front end than the originals)!!! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/thumbsup.gif
