I saw one of these at our SIR Brit car show in Newburgh, Indiana on September 22nd! It had a Spit rack and pinion installed on it. Pretty well done too, almost looked factory installed. What an amazing engine!

Only comment I could offer is that that chassis # shows it was manufactured in 1962 in a run of LHD cars intended for the US market. It would be about 150 cars newer than mine, # 100849. I bought my 1st SP, a 1959 A-spec, used from a dealer in KC, KS in 1961. It can be seen in the background of my avatar.

Hello Ladies & Gentlemen; and Mr. Lewis, thanks for making this forum so much easier to use. James, at least, familiar from the Daimler & Lanchester Forum.

I'm also interested in seatbelts, as, like James' wife, mine would prefer belts and I'm a bit worried about lap-belt-only injuries I've heard about in head-on accidents. Dart, could you post a photo of the connection for the top attachment point?

Thanks,

Rodger.

Hi Rodger; nice to see you active here on the BCF. My shoulder belts are fastened down in the corners of the rear seat and of course on each side of the seats at the floor. I will take a foto or 2 and email to you. I tried using BMW plastic guides that fasten at the seat shoulder via the headrest post, but they keep coming apart & have been abandoned. There may be an MG guide around, but I haven't found it. So we sort of drape the belt over our shoulders. Anything to avoid being used as a horn push.
BTW, I just paid Alan Mason for 2 of the 2013 SP calendars. I expect the cars will be stunning.

Hah! I think some of the shots are kind of porny! Like the one of that fuel filler cap with the chrome hinges. Drool. I love that.

That's seriously stunning!! Any chance I might see it in person at the Sept. DLOCNA gathering at Bronte Park, in Oakville, Ontario??
Fuel cap is quirky neat, but can be a little stressful as you fight to keep the nozzle from dripping or the tank feed tube from blowing fuel back onto the new paint. Don't ask me how I know.
And don't you love it the way a 9-month project is about to see a 6-year anniversary? (Been there, done that, got the T-shirt.)

Ooo, I didn't think it would be that short a project. I didn't think it would be quite this long though. That's a meet I've been to (and driven an SP250 there) but it's a meet I'm not able to go to, unfortunately. Do you really drive up for that meet?!

P.S. If my car still isn't finished in September, you're more than welcome to stop by the shop and see it in person!

However, I do hope it will be done by then. This week they finished the seats, so it sounds like work is still progressing.

Mommy! I want!
You had your chance with a Daimler. Now, if we could see comparable pics of an Etype... just saying.

And James, no not driving to Oakville, will take on trailer. We're driving to WatGlen the preceding weekend for the GP Festival and driving back up adds a day we won't have. Sorry you won't be there.

Where did you buy your parts from Bryan Purves ? David Manners? Any local (USA) place? Did anybody compile a cross reference list of alternate car parts (I.e. same parts used in others such as Jaguar, Triumph etc)?

I realize that this thread is old but I am hoping that you may see my post. I have an SP250 as well as Stags so I love punishment. I have just started a frame off restoration on my 62 SP250
and would appreciate any help and especially some pictures of your restoration. I have questions as follows;
1) how should the underside of the body be finished ? painted body colour or black undercoating ?
2) I am 6 ft and not too flexible at 77 yrs - any suggestions for better reclining seats? Mazda ?
3) did you do any frame stiffening?

I have ordered the 5spd. kit from Newzealand and will install a smaller steering wheel to give me some space.

I want to keep it reasonably close to stock but couldn't live with the old 4 spd box and the oversized steering wheel.

Cheers

Gord, welcome!!! And great car (and the Stags!) - I presume you are connected with the British Saloon club and the various Stag owners in the area.

DART will be along presently - on the other hand, SPNX (James) hasn't been around for a while. I will tell you though that while he (James) lives in Saskatoon, he had the Daimler restored in Burlington - here https://www.howemotorworks.com/ - so they might be able to answer questions.

Do you have pictures?

Also, can I suggest you edit your signature to remove your phone number - just for security.

BTW I am in Etobicoke - moved here from Waterloo in 2009.

Gord- #1 Mine is black undercoating, partially as a heat shield. #2 I put Miata seats in, there is at least one year they have a removable headrest. That allows for a more "original" look at shows. I am 6' also, and at 81 am able to enter/exit OK with the smaller s/wheel.The Miata seats are an almost perfect fit. #3 No, but that is a good idea. The B-spec cars still have too much flex, IMHO. Our club (DLOC-NA) has a tech advisor in New Market, ON who has restored his SP. Send me a PM if you want his contact info. What is your chassis #??
