Greetings fellow British car enthusiasts

I'm a newbie to this forum and have reviewed past posts for the Daimler SP 250. I had the privilege of owning a 1961 model back in 68 while residing in Connecticut. I had quite a bit of extensive work done on it in preparation to race in D-prod but decided against it and made it streetable. I've been trying to find whatever happened to the car and who currently owns it. A few years ago, In one of the Lime Rock vintage races on the speed channel, I thought I saw it. Does anyone out there know if there are any SP 250 clubs in the US or of a way to trace this car?? I still have a new spare 15 x 6 splined minilite mag that's been stored in my attic since being purchased. I'd like to reunite the vehicle with the mag and reacquaint myself with the vehicle. Any help out there would be much appreciated.

Thanks,
Don

ss- if you have the chassis number I might be able to help. There is a SP registry run by the Brit DLOC group, and I have their latest listing of SP owners. The US club is DLOC-NA, but we do not have as complete a listing. You probably used the chassis number as a VIN when the car was titled.

Dale,

Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately I don't have the chassis / vin for the car. All the paperwork / receipts, shop service manual and owners manual was given to the new owner. Is there a web site for the DLOC-NA? On another note,I noticed you are in Baltimore.. My car was restored / prepared by a gentlemen in Chestertown, MD. It was there over a year. He serviced quite a few SP 250's and had an immense amount of spare parts. If my memory serves me correctly, Duncan Blacks race car was in the shop while mine was in there.
If you can think of any other way of tracking this, it would be appreciated.

Don- I also used Bill Jarell for repairs, I don't think any of the Black cars were there; Bill was racing some that he had prepared. There are a couple being raced from CT & NJ, but I think you need to give me a little more info. The DLOC-NA site <www.dloc-na.org> is hosted here by Basil, and is a beginning effort that has stalled because of other time requirements in my life at the moment. I expect to get back to it in a couple weeks. (I'm the unofficial webmaster).

Dale,

What a small world..Bill Jarell was the man. I have to believe that my SP250 still resides somewhere in the northeast.. probably in CT. You're taxing my memory..The car at the time (69-70) had splined street minilites with k/o's and roll bar. Bill rebuilt and teaked the motor, installed a cdi,new konis, rebuilt the front suspension, rear dampers,F/R brakes, did a custom exhaust, wood moto lita steering wheel, new top and tonneau. It also had Cibie 35's mounted on the front bumper. It had an extremely poorly done fiberglass repair on the drivers door area when I purchased it. I had all the chrome replated, interior and seats redone. This car doesn't have the original rear end..It had a Healey 3000 rear installed with 3.91 gearing. Former owner blew out the Daimler rear end while racing Vettes at the dragstrip in Colchester, CT. Palotti and Poole in Htfd installed the AH rear.
I may be wrong, but I think the car is now painted a shade of yellow. If I saw the car, I could identify it.
I had heard that Bill had moved to FL?? He was a great guy..
Is he still with us?

Wow! It is a small world. We bought the Healey I learned to drive in at Palotti & Poole's. I was thinking about Candy Poole today - we were at his house on Memorial Day the first year the Brit rear-engined cars showed up at Indy. (He died in FL within the past year).

I also remember Frank Maratta's dragstrip in Colchester & have some photos at https://www.coldplugs.com/cars_misc01.htm .

Not sure I can help with your Daimler but will dig through my old e-mails. Good luck in your search.

Don-
You did a lot of good work on that car, sounds like a primo A spec.
I hear Bill is dead & the car he raced was campaigned by his son. I think the drivers he had were sold. I have tried to accumulate race car pics over the past couple years & do not have any in a yellow shade...or even the tan/bisquit that was original. If you want to pick up a race SP, there is one in CT available for 21,000 (or was avail a month ago). This one has rack steering and a replaced rear. I saw it race at Summit Pt. in late Nov.
And John...this forum keeps making the world smaller and smaller and..............

There was a guy racing a Dart in SCCA in the late '70s/early '80s. I met him at Summit Point. He said that his father raced it before him. If I could only remember his name...

I do remember that he worked on passenger-hauling Beech 18s for a paycheck. He was from one of the Carolinas, I think.

Not much help, am I?

Dale,

Do you have a link or info on the SP250 that was for sale in CT?

Thanks,

Don
