Jack:
That is a 1098 head, very nice upgrate for Agatha. It has larger intake valves 1 7/32 vs stock 1 5/32 of the 948. It needs alot of decking to make it work the Chamber Volume is 28.3 cc vs 26.1 of the 948. This is required to keep the compression ratio up. Since the 948 was only 8.3 to one and idealy for a street car you want 9.0 to 1.
It has not ben mentioned whether or not it has been magnafluxed for cracks, and I doubt that it was really reconditioned since it retains the original spring retainers.
So basically it could be a cheap gamble and I would be apprehensive, if you find one that has been magnafluxed I would be willing to pay more.
A basically mildly ported 1098 head with larger valves, no lead seats and decked out would run at least $900 (valves, guides, seats, springs, mild grinding). It would probably give Agatha about five more HP at the flywheel.
Further, you would have to consider the stock carbs and exhaust restriction.
Basically, it is a gamble that could sit on the shelf until you are ready to spend about $1,300 to give Agatha about 7 or 8 HP more.
Please note that this is my opinion and also 7 or 8 HP on a 40 plus engine is significant.
I would question if it was magnifluxed towards the end on the auction, and if it was I would consider buying it for the shelf, but have it magnifluxed by your guy, the cost is about $50.
Sorry for being so long, good luck.
