Ceramic Coating

Does anyone have any experience with ceramic coating their exhaust manifold that they could share? It seems like a simple way to reduce some heat from under the bonnet, and help increase the hp. Not to mention cleaning up the look. They seem to 'shed' their finish quickly after they've been freshened up. Thanks.

Best recent picture I could find of them since being in service:

I put the Jet Hot coating on my A90 (same as a BN1/BN2 motor) and it has made all the difference in the world. It has NOTICEABLY cut heat in the engine compartment. I used thier extreme coating which isn't as shiny but has the maximum heat reduction rating:

If the image doesn't load you can see the header here:

I've also put the coating on my Jag Mk IX with excellent results.

I've been running the A90 now with the coating for about 1,000 miles - no change in surface quality - looks like new.

I had my BJ8 exhaust header porcelainized and think it came out great. I used Prairie Auto Porcelain in MN 507-645-5325-VERY good to deal with. JMH

I jethotted my 6 manifold around 91- been on the 6 ever since. Was my daily driver on two 6's for better than 10 years.. The gloss dulled, but the coating is still there... Tried waxing one time, but the wax gave a distinct odor when warmed up and burning off...

Would I do it again. YUP!

I went with Jet-Hot coating the manifold to help reduce heat/fuel boiling. Also got a Denis Welch heat shield and also got it coated.

I just picked the car up yesterday so I can't give you much of a report on how well it worked, but I talked with the guys at the coating place about all the options, and they said that porcelain cracks basically no matter what you do - unless of course you never drive the car afterward.

Porcelain wasn't original on Healeys and the Jet-Hot coating is supposed to work better and it lasts indefinitely, so there was no hesitation on my part on which option to choose.

Reid, did you do both intake and exhaust manifolds? What sort of ballpark price would I be looking at? Thanks.

Brakin -

You probably don't want to Jet hot your intake manifold as the car works best when there is some heat in the intake manifold. If it is Jet Hot Coated, the surface temp inside could very well be too cool, meaning you'd have to run the carbs too rich to keep the fuel mixture right.

You only need the coating on the exhaust manifold to control the heat.

Only the exhaust manifold. It cost $120. Coating the Denis Welch heat shield was another $40.

They also had a variety of colors available, and reported that the black works best for suppressing heat, although I opted for a dull silver.
