Best tool for getting help in the garage.

My wife helps in the garage. Actually, she is much more than a helper, she does her share on the cars we restore. She is not too interested in helping when it is cold in the garage. So I bought a propane heater for the garage for her. That improves the helper attitude! It is a 75000 BTU unit and it blows right onto the car. It is a little hot for me but worth the investment!

The various small parts that have to be painted with a spray can dry faster also!

I decided that my wife was worth keeping. I came home one day and found a pile of parts in the garage. She told me that I needed a hobby and my daughters needed to learn something about cars before they got their licenses. So I was looking at a Triumph TR3a in pieces that she bought from the neighbor. We restored it, joined a local club and have a good hobby to share with our daughters, and now their boyfriends. Two years later, she said I needed another hobby and I came home to another pile of parts. This one was an Austin Healey 100 6. Again in pieces. We restored that one also. Now I have a AH BJ8 that we are working on. I bought this one! It also is in pieces and I did not make as good a buy as my wife did. But, we will get it done. I think I might be losing my obsessive nature, this one might take me two years.

She's a keeper!! Yesssir!!

My son-in-law tells all his friends that my daughter knows more about cars than him....he tells me she knows more about cars than him & most of his friends!

She was my helper & we still have her first car that we restored together right before she got her license - & she's 36 or so now!!

A couple bottles of good cold beer helps attract assistance when needed. Works better in the summer than the winter.

Made a portable rollaround couch by making a wooden carrier for the extra ( never used ) seat from the van. The seat hooks into the wooden carrier using the same pin sizes and locating hooks that the van uses. It has Steel swivel wheels on all corners.
Every one loves it.

The previous post was actually the second best tool in the shop.
The way that I got my wife to be part of the car deal was - about 25 years ago I asked her what kind of car she wanted to drive. She replied - without hesitation - I want an XKE Jag.
Now my task was easy - Find a Jag and fix it up and maintain it so that she always has a lovely fun car.
She still helps me whenever I ask and she still drives that Jag.

The MG here is SWMBO's car. She'll turn wrenches on it, no problem. Can't get her to even check the oil in th' diesel. Wazzupwiddat?!?

My first .sigfile here onna BCF was:

"Hey! I ~LOVE~ my wife... she lets me drive her MG!"

I really like the "help" the bench has attracted! Reminds me of my lab that passed August 2006. Have got "the replacements" now. Sibling 1/2 pit and 1/2 huskie male and female. Beautiful and smart. Non agressive. I love 'em. When I figure out how to post pictures I'll put them up. Like the bench. I need one in the barn, too.

My wife is an expert manual transmission driver who learned from her Dad in the hills of San Francisco in a early 60s Hillman convertible. She can't wait to get hands on the MG.
