General MG Alternator link - adjusting bracket length on MGB?

My '66 Morris Minor has an alternator conversion (it's running a 1275 from a Spridget). The link that the you use to adjust belt tension seems to be a bit short. I think it's the stock Spridget piece.

I was wondering if anyone knew if an MGB part might be different or maybe a bit longer? See mine below for reference.

The easier and more proper way is to use the correct fan belt- Moss #434-600 (for alternator) instead of the 460-990 (for generator)

Thanks for the tip, Bill. I wasn't able to find a belt locally that fit any better.

Autozone will have a longer one. Maybe too long as I think I had to cut mine. It was also chrome, but, they are easily available. I can take a look in my bin also. How much more do you need?

FWIW with the Vauxhall I also went to Canadian Tire (like Autozone but better) at a quiet time and they helped me find the correct length belt by trial and error

Another inch or two would likely give me enough adjustability room. Didn't think about finding a generic one at Autozone, will have to try them as well.

FWIW, that bracket on my '78 is about the same length as the one you have pictured...but it's slightly curved instead of straight. At any rate, I agree that any decent parts store should be able to measure your belt and provide you with one long enough to fit your installation...

So I took JP's advice and checked the local parts store for a generic bracket. They had one that would work with a little cutting and one new hole. Gives a wider range of adjustability and fits just fine. Some bling for my engine. :grin:

Woo Hoo! I no longer use mine but, it was literally the chrome in the engine bay - shiniest part on the car! (as yours appears to be) well done!
