Don't ignore stiff window regulator

I found one cause of a "hard to operate" window winder. As more force is required to wind up the window, the plate holding the two gears bend. This causes the large gear to rub on the plate, which in turn requires yet more force. This cycle continues until something is broken.
The solution is to take it out of door, straighten the plate, clean out the old grease in the channels etc. I have taken the added precaution of reinforcing the plate by welding a strip of metal across the top.

I had to perform this same operation on my '65 BJ8 about 10 years ago. Rebuilt the whole mechanism, this was before there were replacement
parts available.

Can you post pics of what you did?

I have replaced all new in windows and adjusted. Still stiff. Could you send me a drawing on what you did. Thanks
I just finished installing my windows a few months ago and I had to work the nylon clips with heavy duty emory boards to get them to slide up & down without binding. That was only after I had to have the glass shop redo them because they didn't pay attention to the fit. I used spray silicone to make them slide easier.

Going thru that now with my newly acquired 67 BJ8. Are the new manufactured regulators worth a hoot or should I rebuild the ones I have

Just a note here:
Be sure the long brass track is not distorted or crimped some where along its length which causes the plastic sliders to bind.

Well pointed out. I placed a socket in the channel and rolled it to find out what areas needed tweaking till it rolled smoothly.
