On the subject of new parts that don't fit...

The rear gearbox side mounts from VB - part# 5-508 do not fit. They are easily 3/16" thinner than the originals. I bet Moss also gets them from the same supplier. How can they be that far off? I mean I can see maybe a 16th" or a 32nd" difference, but 3/16's. That's outrageous! :madder:

We may or may not get them from the same place, it's hard to say but I just put my engine and transmission back in my midget last summer and the size was right on. Give me some measurements, and maybe a photo, and I will check our stock Monday and see if they measure up. hahaha

Do you think that parts not fitting correctly is funny Shawn?

Is funny if you bought them from VB and he represents Moss.
In a sad sort of way, but I've done the same thing when competitor's parts and products fail to work.
Why the call me The Bearded Old Curmudgeon.

I'm sure that's ONE of the reasons...

Shawn, it's great having someone here who represents.
Don't worry if your attempt at humor is misunderstood, sometimes people are a bit too serious.

Lighten up people, he's trying to be helpful.

OK. Here are the measurements. Original rubber pieces are 1-1/16" thick. Pieces bought from VB are 13/16" thick.

Any questions?

I vaguely remember that same dilemma when I went to install a rebuilt transmission in my 59 Bugeye. If I remember correctly, I just peeled the metal strips off the old rubber transmission mounts and added them to the new VB mounts to space them properly.

Hey Shawn. Thanks for responding. Would you mind taking a look at the "replacing windshield frame" thread? I am having a heck of a time getting the Moss windshield frame to body seal to work. In my case, the seal seems to be much too thick to fit into the windshield frame slot. I even had an installer come by who said that he had done a number of these, but that the Moss seal I had was just not right (in his opinion). Thanks, Jim

Yep, glad to see someone here we can communitcate with. I stopped ordering from Moss due to lack of customer service. Things got bad enough that I asked for contact info for the head honcho...which I was repeatedly denied. Needless to say that only made the situation worse. VB may send me crap or the wrong part every once and a while, but they immeadiatly send a replacement without any BS or making me jump through hoops. They haven't ever hassled me with having to send the bad/wrong part back. It's one thing to make good on a bad part w/o hassle, it's a whole other level when you're willing to take a hit rather than inconvience a customer. That's what I call service!

Imagine if you got a bunch of us in a room together and someone asked for The Bearded Old Curmudgeon to step forward....the room would tilt is my guess :savewave:
