Clutch line

I have been working on my 68 sprite. I have replaced the clutch, slave cylinder, master cylinder and the rubber line. I noticed to day that the line from the master cylinder to the slave was seeping. Mine is all metal and would like to know what I can use as a replacement? Its the only old part left in the system I seen the rubber in the VB kit but don't see it listed by itself. Any input would be great, thanks Willy.

Can I just use metal break line? Is there anything odd to the thread size I would need to beware of? I have looked at pics on here and see that mine is completely wrong. It is 3 pieces of metal line joined by couplers. It has been routed in front of the battery and where the heater core was. Thanks for any help once more, Willy.

I do not have an original car to send you a picture, but on a '68 I think it runs along the front edge of the heater shelf. IIRC it is aggravating to make the bend at the top where it goes into the master. Try to reuse your old fittings and just make new flares. At the MC end they are bubble flared. I do not remember what type of connection is at the end where it meets the rubber hose adapter going into the slave.

Yes 1/4" brake line is what you need. 3/16" is too small.

Thanks Trevor. I don't have a flare tool. Is the fitting on 1/4 brake line different size? If so I may be able to get a garage to cut and flare one for me. I don't have a lot of auto parts stores to choose from. When I tell them what I have they either have no clue or say it don't show on their computer.

My uncle Mike bought it while recovering from wounds he got in Vietnam. After I came home from the middle east I was in bad shape. My right leg was gone from the knee down, left arm is well for the lack of better words shot. Mike found out he had cancer and it was passed on to me. An IED changed my life, so has this little car. It has been the best physical therapy I could ask for. I know I will never have a show car. I'm way to poor but I do enjoy working on and driving it. So thanks to all you guys that help out people like me.

OK, I know you are trying to save a buck. But you might want to call Peter C. He will make you a line that is the correct length with the correct fittings. It might be cheaper in the long run since you may end up having to do it twice if you get the length wrong. Here is his number (800) 362-1025

I think its just the British double flare but you are not likely to find it locally. Trevor has the best plan other than finding a used one.

Kurt.

Thanks guys. I don't know who Peter C is but I take it he does custom work. Are the lines all steel or rubber like a brake line?

Peter C sells autoparts for old cars and rebuilds lever shocks. He is very knowledgeable about spridgets and is an all round nice guy.

The clutch line is metal from the master down to a bracket/adapter on the passenger side frame rail. At that point it is a rubber line that goes to the slave. The rubber line is there to absorb vibration/movement.

Thanks, I put the rubber line on. I replaced the clutch, pressure plate and throw out bearing. New slave, and master cylinder. So the metal line is all that's left.

I just wanted to say thanks for the input and help. I got a hold of Peter C and he is making me a new metal line. Should have it by the end of the week.
