Wow...nice '56 on ebay

so it is a 28K shiny TR3 with some "questions"...

<note to self> must follow Basil's rules about bashing ebay auctions..... must follow Basil's rules...

but on a positive note it DOES appear to have the chrome around the small mouth....

Those non-standard bits of Radio-Shack electronics around the non-standard Control Box sure makes one wonder what else 'lies beneath'....

YEA! That particular moulding is VERY hard to come by. Not only that IF and I do mean IF you do Happen to find a used one don`t count on it bieng complete with joint clips or the mounting hardware either. And IF the moulding itself is in useable condition it will be one of the few miricles you are ever going to see.

I happen to have a small mouth apron, grill and surround that I do not plan to be using on my 58 TR3.

-But, I have never seen a picture, or TR3 in either of the factory shades of grey. Can anyone direct me to where I can see them. I made some bids on ebay for color charts, but the price went too high for me.

I already have a black interior with white piping, and am thinking grey is unusual and might be the right color for me.

Jerry, maybe someone will find links to pictures of cars. Meanwhile, the VTR site has several paint charts, including this Martin-Senour chart covering roughly 1957-65.

I don't think I've ever seen a Pearl Grey TR3, apparently a color only available from Sept. 1957 to Sept. 1958. Silverstone Grey I have seen (dates from approx. Sept. 1958), and it is a very nice color.

Without revealing his name the owner has been a member and a board member of Illinois Sports Owners Association. The 56 TR3 did place Silver Concours in Rockford in 1995.

Andrew...that link won't allow me to look...

Aack! Go figure. At one time, access to the VTR site's Maintenance Handbook was restricted, but it shouldn't be now. From the VTR site , try selecting "Resources" and then "Maintenance Handbook"; from there, the various paint charts are near the top of the page. Hopefully that will work!?

That link doesn't work either ... try this one

Thanks Randall and Andrew. I'm not sure I can see the real (actual) color on my monitor, and printouts of those pages are no better. But, I see there is a "Silvertone Gray", "Silver Gray", "Pearl Gray" and "Silverstone Gray". If I tilt my portable screen far backwards, the colors are great.

I have a 58 TR3 that will not be exactly original, but I'm curious why there are so few gray cars.

Because I couldn't find the chrome surround, I left it off.

Didn't stop me from winning 2 Best of Class.

Here's a grey TR3, but I unfortunately forget which grey. I think I got the photo from T.R. Householder's site. I am getting more and more forgetful.

Hopefully someone will know the car and/or color.

my TR3 is grey (though not an original colour). If you are interested in seeing how it looks just click through to my site.

I suspect that "Silvertone" is simply a typo. Hard to say whether "Pearl" and "Silver" greys are the same or not. Triumph was known to change names for the same color: Primrose on the TR3 was, as far as I've been able to determine, the same as "Pale Yellow" on the early Herald!

Good question! I've always thought that the right grey on the right car is stunning, and Silverstone on a TR3A is "right" for me. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

Great job!!!!!

As an owner of a grey TR3 (original color)I already know you are going to love it.

The most often heard comment when someone looks at my car is ........ "well, what color are you going to paint it?"

People just don't seem to believe one can be happy with an LBC that isn't red, black, or BRG ...... LOL
