Both very good ideas and will also be part of my supply.

Not sure if I should admit this. When I drove cross county in my TR4A after graduation, made it from California to NY and back and did not even think about carrying a spare set of points, and condenser for the trip. Looking back....what was I thinking?

If you needed them you could have gone to an auto parts store.
 
You would probable have picked up a hitch hiker if you saw one with out thinking twice about it.

I am assuming your cross country derive was several years ago.

Everything was much simpler back then with love in the air and youth on your side what could go wrong?

I hate to admit being old....I will answer with....I paid $2100.00 for the car.

The only items that gave up on me were the starter motor going out along with a wire wheel breaking spokes and popping the inner tube. First item was repaired by an old retired electrician who was a friend of my grandfather's and was familiar with working on tractors. Push started the car from Virginia to New York where the repair was done. The wire wheel gave up on me the second to the last day in Reno. Spent the night at a friends and woke up the next day to a flat tire. Had a spare ready to go and made it home later that day. We were gone about a month. Fun adventures for sure.
 
I paid $3500.00 for my TR3A but there was some assembly required.

Now that is what I would call a work in progress and may have required something strong in the water bottle to keep the enthusiasm going?

That was a couple of years ago. November 2015 t be exact. My wife said when I drove up with my project "its in a million pieces can you fix it" .

From what I am seeing you have a much harder row to hoe than I had. Your work on the body is inspiring. Following along with great interest.

Thank you David, I must agree. I did not know what to look for when I bought the car and I took the owners word that it was a solid car. It was a running car with new floor pans , inner and outer sills (not installed yet). The project has been harder and longer than I thought, but I have learned a lot and still enjoy working on my car. I guess that is all that matters. Frank
 
Hello Steve,
As you may know, pitted points means a bad condenser. Unless it has a resistor type coil fitted by mistake, in which case, it's lower internal resistance will cause more current to flow through the points and burn them out. To be sure check the coil's resistance, it should be around 3.5 ohms if its the right coil. Measuring across the primary terminals when switched off.
