Where do I get whitewalls?

Aha!

Can you make your own door panels? Please excuse my ignorance of MGB's. Then you could use Prestige and order extra material to make your own. Since you haven't ordered your interior... it doesn't look like the car will make MG2006.

We got the car parts from Tony, what could be missing?

I can have my interior in enough time.

And I did think about making my own door panels, if colors don't match, but I'd have to have the old panels to recover and I don't - tossed them.

Oh, now you say, Never toss anything till the jobs done, never know what arcane bit you will need.

AMEN! -- That's why I can't even ~SEE~ the Elan at the moment. It's piled high, deep and wide with the MGB bits I've NOT trashed yet. That pile has come in VERY handy as this ordeal progresses.

Door panels are flat... A piece of 1/8" plywood or hardboard would work well as a backing.

That thin Luan sold by Lowe's as an underlayment material works great - & its water resistant.

I know the stuff you mean Tony, but what am I going to use for a pattern/template? Hey, door panels off a '79 the same? Prolly not, or I could buy the ones from Prestige.

Panel size is the same - location of handles is only main difference.

So panel sizes are the same, just the layout for door pulls and window cranks? Chuck has a cousin that's an upholsterer...

Oooooh.... nearly free door panels! Me, I'd trace the outside of the other cars panels, and cut some new ones... Stretch some carfully chosen vinyl over them and be done! But, If you want any kind of patterns in the panels, some sewing machine work will need to be done.

Has to have white piping to match the seats, and I need original ones to pattern off of for stitching and stuff. I insisted we throw the rotten ones away that came with Binabox, they were busted up, stinky and taking up space.

Always keep anything you take off, until the car is done!

I made my own panels for the GT and covered them with a tweed that I found at a local fabric store.

I've a set of panels made out of wood that were on a car I bought some time ago...guy stained them and installed all the door/window handles - they really look pretty neat.

Would you need a special sewing machine to do your own vinyl or is it just the needle that needs to be beefier? I'd hate to riun the wife's machine just for an MG! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/devilgrin.gif

It's the needle. And a presser foot for doing the beading,

Since the topic has come up; I've made the panels out of a 1/8" thick polycarbonate called Markolon. Shatter resistant and ~waterproof~. Got it at a sign shop. Padded it with the closed cell foam you get to pack stuff for shipment at one of the "U-Mail-It" places. For the core of the beading I used weed whacker cord. All materials are waterproof and don't "sponge." The weed whacker cord comes in various diameters, so whatever material you get, you can "gauge" the size of the bead. The "other" non-standard thing I did was use threaded stainless "nut-sert" inserts and screws to attach all the panels.

Next owner is gonna think his DPO was insane. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/devilgrin.gif But he'll APPRECIATE the insanity.

Wouldn't ya know, I just happen to work in a sign shop! I even have the packing material here and flxible rod similar to the weed wacker stuff you refer to. NEAT.

Worst I've ever done makin flat door panels, (but it came out pretty), was make fiberglass door panels (on a Nissan pickup truck). Lay out some plastic onna garage floor, and then lay out a single fleece blanket. Soak it good with fiberglass resin (about 1/2 of a gallon worked for me)... Keep it flat... then let it set up. Cut to size... on the one I did, it had to have a curved top, so after I cut it, I layed the flat piece edge-on on top of a 3 inch PVC pipe with plastic over it... More fleece and resin, and cut to fit. covered the whole thing in vinyl and it looked great!
