Hey hey boys!

So were on our second big healey and this time we decided to upgrade to the modern alternator. What do you guys do for a coil bracket?

i used the same bracket. i just bent another piece of metal, cut to the same width, and put a flange on each end. added it in as an extension.

basically just adding a piece to make the loop bigger. then put it right over the alternator the same way. my bracket looks a little different than yours though. you would have to bend one of your flanges to work. Or take a piece of flat metal and bend your own. just a bigger loop.

a number of other people mounted the coil to the upright brace for the fender that is next to the diz.

Thanks man! Sounds like a few good options so we'll fab something up and post how we end up...

If you want to fabricate something, take a look at the file in the folder linked below.
https://sites.google.com/site/purlawson/home/pictures
In that folder look for the file named "AlternatorCoilBracket.pdf"
(Sorry, that's an old Google storage site and I've never been able to post direct links to the files).

The part shown in the drawing is my copy of the C40 generator coil mounting bracket duplicated to fit an alternator. In my case the part is on my Mini.

Before I installed my MG overflow tank in this location, I used these brackets to clamp the coil to the shroud support.:

After that, I installed it through the right-side throttle rod hole in the pedal box:

Heres one of mine, but i too have several drop boxes full of healey pics. There was one from a guy names Andrea, but the link no longer works. ... Its super useful when your trying to restore these..

Thanks!

I used to have storage space through Earthlink (my ISP). They took that away and I started using the Google site. I don't remember how I opened and set up that page. It has always frustrated me that I could never post direct links to the files and pictures.

After installing my alternator, I too had to finding a location for the coil that was convenient and easily accessible. Additionally, since also using a Crane Electronic Ignition consisting of an external control box that I had previously installed under the passenger fender on the firewall, I didn't want to dramatically reduce the growing appearance of ignition wire complexity. As a result, I installed a plate over the frame opening opposite the distributor and mounted the coil on the plate. Additionally, I routed the Crane distributor interfacing wires under the plate before it passed to the distributor. That was decades ago and, to date, I have had no difficulty as both coil and electronic ignition reside far enough from direct engine heat to experience no heating-related issues.
