Urethane 2k primer? Opinions needed

Hi all,

I'm about to sandblast / wire wheel the underside of a chassis, and would like to put a sealer-primer on immediately after.

Could anyone share their opinion / recent experience? I'm thinking particularly of a 2K (two-part with activator) urethane primer. I was hoping to spray it myself, but the sandblaster offers painting onsite, so I'll probably have them do it.

Epoxy primers are about the best thing since pop-top beer cans! If THEY'll shoot it, DO it! :thumbsup:

I second the epoxy recommendation, particularly on the underbody. Epoxy is not only tough, it seals well against moisture.

Do you get to see their sandblasting work before they spray the primer?

Thanks guys! Heh, good point Trevor... I think I'd want to spray with a rust converter / wash (ie. Eastwood's Metal Prep) before priming, anyway.

If it is sandblasted clean 2part epoxy primer is the solution.

Well I'll play devil's advocate here, the urathane two part primer covers better than anything else, while I like epoxy primers on the under carraige, the urathane primer cover imperfections better on the exterior body. If you make me choose one product to do the whole shell with and give me the choice between epoxy and urathane, I'd have to choose urathane.

I also went with the 2part urethane primer.And will use it again on the "B".As Hap says,it covers imperfections very well. :thumbsup:

Improfections, what kind of a body guy do you have. LOL

After the epoxy you use hi build primer and skim coats of bondo to get all to prefection, as many coats as it takes with lots of hand block sanding.

I'll bite Jack. The Midget still wears it's original paint.I used the urethane on the interior and it worked well.I also used it on the boot lid.Not absolutely smooth,but good enough at 10 feet.
