TR4/4A TR4 / 4A Commission Number Plates -- LBS or KILOS?

I'm thinking that at some point all TR4s started getting the Celsius Temp Gauges.

I also have a theory that they goofed when they made those as the center point is (on mine anyway) 70C which is 158F. An odd temp to center the gauge on.

The correct formula is C=(F-32)*5/9 so 185 (the center temp on the TR3 gauges) would be (185-32)*5/9 = 85C.

But if you get your get your operations out of sequence such as (F*5/9)-32 you get: (185x5/9)-32=71C.

Easy to see why they (and most car makers) ended up using just C, N & H on the dial.

My gauge also centers on 70C. I never thought about the conversion, mine tends to run in the center, but I think I might have also adjusted it a some point to be centered at the normal operating temp. It generally stays within the two brackets.

Were they no longer using 70C thermostats by then?

Here are some pictures of the commission plates from my TR4A's and the reproduction that I put on my first car 25 years ago and also a couple from a TR4 and TR4A that I picked up somewhere.

Looks like they didn't quite get the reproduction plate quite correct at least for the later TR4A's as they have a couple of extra words present (Standard Triumph versus just Standard and Coventry, England versus just Conventry)

Ignore the extra CTC stamps on the original for my first car as apparently the place that I had stamp my reproduction used it to get the stamp close. :frown: Amazingly even though considering some of the others.
