Was going to work on my gearbox remote control today, and went to take out the screws/springs/balls for the reverse detent and lo and behold...............no screws! There are caps in there, but they dont look like they were made to come out? Is this a newer/older style???
Yup, a newer style. I think a TR250 would have originally had the screws, but the push-in plugs started early in TR6 production (as I recall) so maybe some TR250s got them as original.
To remove mine, I found a suitable size tap that would bite into the sides of the plug, plus a short sleeve large enough for the plug to slide through and a nut with the same threads as the tap. Screwed the nut onto the tap, slipped the sleeve on, then screwed the tap into the plug. Tightening the nut lifted the plug right out.
I could have reused them (which was the point of the above procedure), but decided I would rather tap the top cover and install the earlier screw-in plugs.
If you know you won't reuse them, another method is to drill a hole in the center of the plug and screw a sheet metal screw into the hole, then pry up on the head of the screw.

[/QUOTE]Newer, I believe. The adjusting bolts were only used for a few years in the middle; but the earlier arrangement was a single bolt that went all the way through.
My guess is that your DPO has substituted the top cover from a TR6.
