Tips needed on cutting out and replacing sills

Maybe another bit of bracing on the inside of the door opening. That A-pillar skin will flex quite a bit.
 
Phil, I don't know how tough the MOT can be, but here they take a pointed hammer to each and every thing that looks like it could be rusty, and if it makes a hole, it fails.

(But that's ok. On Opels they will fail it just on suspicion of rust)

You have som suspicious areas, but if the welds hold, it should be ok. If the welds burn the surrounding rust, you should have cut further.

It looks like you're on the right track.

It looks like you're on the right track.

It's pretty much the same here, especially with an old car, the testers are instantly suspicious if it's not a pristine Bentley ... 'classic car' garages are getting thin on the ground, most modern MOT centers are staffed with people who have probebly never seen a car older than 20 years, let alone driven one.

Nice start. You gona be so pleased when you get it like new.
 
I drilled out all the welds then pried the pieces apart, it takes some time but it all came off cleanly. Grind everything down to new metal so you can easily weld the new metal on. I bought replacement sills from VB, nice quality stuff and I felt at a reasonable price.

inner sill is full of holes, but not badly enough to need replacement, just a number of patches:

that's certainly a task you have ... keep plugging away, you've made some good progress ... just need to keep moving forward.

Certainly gives you some ideas, as far as bracing, cutting out old panels, tack- and rosette-welding, etc.

wow, thats a lot of work, I do like the mk1 shape though, not many left over here in England ...

my '78 Type2 is in similar shape though, needs a complete rebuild, but it's got to wait until I get the MG done.
