ok,
is anyone running a tilton rally clutch with aluminum flywheel on the street? if so, is it a pain to live with?
i'd like to find a clutch that is bullet proof. it seams like every tr4,4a,5,250,6 clutch has some kind of poor performance with longgevity (i realy can't spell).has anyone converted a japanese (oh, did i say that outloud?)clutch to a tr? seems all the japanese clutches last 200,000 miles.(no i don't want a japanese car-i already have 1)

I think that TR6 Bill knows quite a bit about the clutches available for TR6's and the related hardware. I'll defer to the higher levels on this one.

spell check has removed those brain cells since they were mostly dormant anyways.

Ever take a look at my edits and corrections, even with spell checkers?

OK, lets talk about clutches here. I'm getting ready to take my gearbox out for like the 3rd time..this time to fix a leaky main seal the trashed my current clutch.

Well, I promised myself last time that if I ever had to do this again, I'd do it up right. Waiting in the garage is a Spec Stage 2 clutch. It's made of Kevlar, so it should outlast the car and handle 300hp at the same time. I'm also upgrading to Herman Van Den Akker's hydraulic throwout bearing. From what I've heard, it should make the clutch action as smooth as silk. All this should mate well with the alloy Fidenza flywheel that's already installed.

Is all this overkill? Well yes, but I don't want to ever mess with this stuff again... or at least 4 years, whichever comes first. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

I have a kevlar clutch in mine too. It's a bit overkill (and cost nigh on $500 istr) but on my limited driving seemed to work ok. Now if only I can get it to run so's I can start wearing it out...

Wow! I thought I was bad with my Gunst issues and expensive clutch replacements. Of course, had I known about the Kevlar...nah!

Shannon,
Care to comment on the Fidenza flywheel? Did you purchase it from TSI? I'm thinking of this unit as opposed to my 30lb steel flywheel.

Yes, I purchased it from TSI, it was actually cheaper buying it from Ted than from Summit. The fit and finish is great and it's one of the single best upgrades that you can do to a TR6 IMO. There is no loss in driveability plus the engine revs much faster.

yes, TSI seemed to offer the best value on that flywheel. thanks for your input Shannon.

I have the Fidanza aluminum flywheel from TSI. Of course, with a trashed oil pump, it ain't doing me much good.

Centerforce. Formerly Hays Clutch.

took my disc and pressure plate(it was diaphragm) into Bill at his Midway shop before he turned Centerforce over to his son in law. He matched it up, some kind of Ford. Thinking Probe, but can't remember. That disc and pressure plate have been transferred to two other TR6's. First one collision with a center island and post, bent the frame. 2nd one iron oxided away. But over 35K miles on the clutch and still going strong. Just need to someday pull the tranny out and put the McLeod hydraulic tob back in.

"Waiting in the garage is a Spec Stage 2 clutch. It's made of Kevlar,"

Shannon,
what exactly is the clutch you have? disc and pressure plate?
Is that a tilton? what are the model numbers?

I actually was turned on to Spec Clutch from Bob Lang... he races TR's on the 6-pack, very smart fellow IMO. They mostly do high horsepower v-8s, and they've got a good reputation in the Mustang world.

Anyway, you'll find Spec's website here:
https://www.specclutch.com/

You'll need to call them to order the kit since they don't list Triumphs on their website. The price for a stage 2 was about $300 for the complete kit (bearing/clutch/PP). They custom make their clutches to order.
