I thought you MG folks might get a kick out of this...

I picked up my '79 Spitfire about a month ago. The next day a Volvo friend of ours came down to help us out with some brake work on my old Volvo. I had the Spit out in the driveway when he arrived so I could wash off the mud that I had picked up getting the car out of the PO's driveway.

Little did I know that this guy was an LBC owner from many moons ago. By the time he left that day he had stared at my car for probably an hour, sat in it, and then stared at it some more.

The next day I get an email saying he's now looking for an MGB because seeing my car reminded him of all the fun he had with his old car. I figured this would pass. A month later and I get an email from him. He says he thinks he may have located his original '69 MGB up in Binghamton, NY but he's waiting to hear back from the owner to confirm and then to find out if he's willing to sell. Whether he gets that car or not, I think it's only a matter of time before he has an MGB sitting in the garage next to his 1800 coupe. Next week he's planning a visit down to British Miles over in PA to see the cars that they've got available...

He even sent me a picture of his original car when it was new back in '69. Picture is attached.

Of course, I am blamed for being the cause of all this. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/devilgrin.gif

I've a friend who did the same thing - bought a '68 GT new - sold it - 20 years later found it in a barn & restored it...don't think he'll let it get away again

...my daughter's 1st car is a '71 Karmann Ghis...got it when she was 16...she'll be 34 this year...she won't think of selling it even though its stored at my house.
 
Its a condition that goes into "remission" and can lie dormant for decades until set off again.... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif

In my case I was free of the condition from 1975 through 2001 and then... well, I've only the one, but its a truly severe case.... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazyeyes.gif
 
im 34 but i must have seen a MG convertible when i was a kid cause ive always had this strange urge to buy a little red convertible!....too bad mines orange ; )

"remission" yep, from 1990 to 2006 then it hit hard. sigh.
 
Me too. MGitis went into remission in 1975, but I had a severe outbreak January 2005. I've learned to live and cope with it. Support groups like this help.
 
"remission".... hmmm.... NO idea what that is.

LBC's, MGitis... I'm ate up wifit. Loosing battle since 1969.

Well, my friend has no desire to restore another car. He said the Volvo was enough for him. So if this car in NY turns out to be his and is indeed for sale, he may not buy it if it's a basket case. He said he's really just looking for a nice, rust-free car that he can drive and enjoy. Not looking for a show car.

A P1800 and an MGB would look VERY nice parked next to each other on anyone's driveway. I hope your friend confirms that it is his old MGB and that it's worth buying.
 
Ohhh, the best of both worlds!
 
Yeah, I love, love, love the Spitfire but the Volvo is such a nice cruiser. The seats are more comfortable than anything in my house and the suspension just soaks up the bumps like there's no tomorrow. Of course, the handling is nothing like a LBC but with the new front swaybar we put in last year, it is vastly improved. Now if we can just get the engine back in again, I'll be able to enjoy it once more when the weather warms...
 
Oh, Robyn...for what you just described I use my 380SL!
 
I'm 33, bought my first LBC (the B) 2 years ago. Tomorrow I pick up my second one. An Alfa Spider! I can't wait to make the 170 mile test drive home - hehheehe /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbsup.gif
 
*Technically* not an LBC, Kenny... but near enuff. LIC.
 
Well it fits the Little Bitty car moniker - that alot of other people use here. Technically a Vovlo P1800 would be a LSC to me too, but seems like "Bitty" fits for most folks.

And the Birmingam British Motoring Club "adopted" alfas as an honorary british car, at the only car show I ever get to go to - even though they have to park next to ferraris.
 
We're *such* Cretins here: We cram all the clothing 'n supplies in the finest matched Italian luggage we own (ALL the paper bags come from PUBLIX!) and cram it inna boot of whichever LBC is running at the time, and press on. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/jester.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/hammer.gif
 
Ahhh, wait. The Alpha is not a LBC. It's some other thing.
