• Hey Guest!
British Car Forum has been supporting enthusiasts for over 25 years by providing a great place to share our love for British cars. You can support our efforts by upgrading your membership for less than the dues of most car clubs. There are some perks with a member upgrade!

The Future of BCF

I think careful cosideration should be given to the usefulness of adding a blog feature unrestricted, with no control. There may not be any real additional revenue that in particular will attract. I do however think it would be useful limited to the interest at hand here, BC's. Each of us have projects that we desire to let others know about and some few have projects all would be interested in. Addition of blogs, a feature whose intimacy escapes me, might be useful in that respect, one could create one, keeping to the subject.

One of the unique aspects of this forum is the decorum, respect, knowledge and focused attention of the members.

Alas, I fear compromise should family, politics etc. become associated however tenuous the link or tie.

I appreciate that concern, and I share it. Perhaps a better solution would be to allow British-Car focused blogs only, since the blog address would be associated with the forum. Then, allow people to do whatever they want (within reason) if they are paying for hosting service in which case they would have their own domain name not affiliated with www.Britishcarforum.com just coincidentally residing on the same server. Going to have to think on that a spell (and did I ever tell you a grew up in Bridgeport? 223 Gordon Street if you want to see where Basil spent his grade school years)

Otherwise you may find some MG hubcaps missing

PS: I've made some minor mods to the subscription spreadsheet posted in an earlier post...hit refresh if you look at it again to be certain you are looking at the latest.

You young guys always have to bring age into the conversion don't you?

Platinum looks like a good deal, since it's about the same $$ as hosting now. Will I be "grandfathered" in I renew my hosting memberships??

Yes, if I do implement this membership scheme, it is my intention to grant all current members hosting on BCF servers the "Platinum" status.

Ok, I have added links to the headers on this spreadsheet. If you click on the headers, it will pop up with a brief explanation of each feature.

L@@K HERE!

Hi Basil,
In the main photo gallery, it mentions a 1 meg. limit for disk space on the server. Does that hold true here or would there be a scale depending on membership. Also would there be size limitations for the blogs? After all, Doc may upload twenty years of cat photos.

As soon as I figure out how, there will be different limits in the Main Gallery depending on subscription level. And yes, the blogs will have a limit of disk space, but it will be ample for most folks (well, maybe not Doc  )

By the way, the subscription system is now set up under "My Stuff" >> "My Subscriptions" menu above. It works through Paypal. (At least I hope it works)

Did it work? I got a PM immediately.

Well, I just got a PayPal notification, so that part worked. NOw let me see if it made you a silver member.

Funny, I don't feel any different.

If you look under your name on the left you will see the custom title "Silver Member" (Which I had to add manually). Thanks for being the guinea pig!

My pleasure. Hopefully there is an easy way to automate that process. Hate to have you manually do that for everyone.

Basil.

I for one really appreciate what you do here even though this is the first time I've said so.

I just sent in a subscription also as it was a way for me to give back something. There is a lot on this forum I don't even see because I don't look for it. Mainly this is because I usually log on late at night after I get home from work (swingshift, by choice) so time is important to me. I like to get up early to work on my Healey if possible before starting the routine all over again.

Personally I think if you feel you can make a go of it then have at it because if it's something you are good at and enjoy then keep at it.

Yes you should charge whatever the marker rate is as "the love " only goes so far when it's coming out of your own pocket.

bundyrum.

Two things Butt Monkey - First, you didn't read the rules (or you did and chose to ignore them). Second, you are a liar....you are not located in UK, you are in Japan...you think I can't trace an IP? Third...you are outta here! Please don't let the door hit you too hard in the backside on the way out!

Basil

I usually catch these guys before I approve their accounts - I must be slipping!
