A body of knowledge about a lot of LBC's and their idiosyncranies resides in here through the members, I have noticed some members appear to also work on these cars in a professional manner, ie as a means of income, and use this body of knowledge as a source of assistance at times, (Yes, I know they also assist people). Perhaps as a means of assuring this forums continuity and thereby also the access to this body of knowledge these same people who use it for gratuitous purposes might also consider donating the odd coin or two to ensure its continuance?

Just trying to think outside the box here: what about allowing national/regional/local british car clubs to buy "membership" to the forum. Then have a club section that allows club members to access their club forum. Delegate the administration of privileges to some trusted BCF'er that has volunteered to help.
So... another source of revenue, increased membership and participation, and clubs have something else of value to offer their members with little extra effort.
It appeals to me because I can then easily see what is happening in my club(s) and still draw upon the "open" forums.

If you make the site membership only, you will lose a HUGE portion of your users. Additional privileges for paid users is a fine idea, but the trick is to offer additional features to those who subscribe rather than restrict those who do not. Taking away basic features such as image posting, search functions, etc will only make the forum less attractive to potential users. The hard part then becomes brainstorming features people would actually pay to use.

Based on some of the comments I've read, I drafted a proposed set of "subscription levels" in which basic users (FREE) would still have all the same capabilities, but subscribers may, for example, have a bit more in terms of things like the number of file attachments they can make per post, the file size allowed, the number of PMs they can have, the number of members they can invite, whether they can use HTML code in a post (vice UBB code which would still be available for free). Anyway, the link below is a draft of my initial thoughts wherein FREE users still have all the basic features, but get a little more of some things for being paid subscribers. The latter two (Gold and Platinum) offer even more in the form of personal blogs and/or hosting their own web site with unique domain name (Domain must be registered by user)

Count me in for a silver minimally. $25..00 a year is a small price to pay for all that the forum has given me and will continue to give me. Depending on the pay date (Middle of year as opposed to end/first of year is the best for me what with taxes, holidays and heating fuel.) Gold sounds even better.

The forum is by far the best for British Cars!
And not even knowing you, I can tell alot about your character by the way this forum is run, you are an outstanding fellow in my book.
I feel that there are too many wonderers out there who lurk at the forum, and think that what they should be able to view is only the last three posts in each forum.
I also feel that paying a membership fee is fine or increasing advertising is also great as well.
One question, could this be setup as a not for profit 403something, you collect an administration fee, and we get a tax exempt deduction for our membership?
In conclusion, this forum would not be the same without you, and you deserve alot more for your time devotion and outlays (all the upgrades and new hardware).
