And measure from a centerpoint of the car(I use the mirror and trunk push button) making sure the string is the same measurement away from center.(The contractors chalked twine works very well for a centerline).

I read the toe-in comments this morning and did not see any mention to dealing with the slack in the steering system. This is important because while driving forward the slack will be addressed one way and when backing up it will be addressed the opposite way and if the car is raised it will not be addressed.
To get a more accurate toe-in check the vehicle should be moved forward, 10'should be enough, to load the steering geometry in approximation to actually driving. Then make any measurements. If using a toe gage measure the front first and move the vehicle forward and record the rear. Any backing up will give an inaccurate reading.

Me and Amos we is both still in the T-500 miles
driven challenge.

83 miles driven to date- and we will call changing out
the fuel pump today kind of a maintenance item. Amos
sounds mighty strong tonight.

Raining cats and dogs right now or I'd ride around the hood.

Everyone OK with changing out the fuel pump as a
maintenance job?

Again?? Whassup with that?
As long as it was preventative maintenance, I'm good with that, Dale. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/thumbsup.gif

I'll give it to you ... but I don't normally consider changing the fuel pump part of routine maintenance. They usually last a long time, and failures are more-or-less random, so I only change/rebuild them when there is a problem.

Nope, you'll have to start again.....

There is something else hiding behind a fuel pump change at 83 miles. Dig deeper..........

30+ years old fuel pump kindly donated by a BCF member
to the project!!

I'd say that counts as a timely maintenance change out.

Sorry! I thought that this was one of your new ones! You mean that you didn't get a new one yet? Moss had them on sale last week.

Now it sounds more probable.

You need to keep the players roster cards updated if you want us to keep score properly.

Never bet against a Scot or a Cubano when it comes to
resolve, sheer will power and plain hard headedness.
You will lose your $$ every time. We never give up.

Amos alive and well, purring like a kitten with the new
fuel pump and Ben's fine carb tuning. Sneaking drives
around the hood while tail light lenses due to arrive
shortly.

You gentlemen and ladies need to start cleaning and fine
tuning your old cars for a 100 mile drive.

Dave and I will most likely clock the 500 mile barrier
during his visit here in ten days.

I totally enjoy driving Amos past DPO Pedro's house and
waving.

Way to go Dale!!! Hoping the snow holds off for the drive. Hate to miss out since I came up with the idea in the first place.
We are only supposed to get in the 50's this coming weekend! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/frown.gif /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/pukeface.gif

Doing my best Tom-

New rear plastics should start arriving on Monday.
I've been looking around for red and yellow plastic
sheets to make temp. turns and stops for the rear.
No luck so far.

Keep the faith

Yo Paul,

Friday was a holiday here on the island- Columbus day or
something.

Took the opportunity to spend most of the day on the water
fishing and relaxing. Now I am preparing Amos for the
replacement tail light plastic lenses. Dpo Pedro had used
many wood screws that did a whole bunch of damage when they
go ripped out. So I've got a little body work to do and repaint the entire rear black portion.

Yup, that's what the broken lenses look like when you pry them off from the outside while the brackets are still on the car.

Way Cool-

The 500 mile towards Amos enduro began 06 October and
today is 06 November. Much has transpired during the past
month.

Ben and Mrs Ben arrived back home safe, sound and a bit
chillier than here. David and his womenfolk arrived from
Canada. David completed Ben's fine tuning of the engine and
ate a ton of great Puerto Rican food. The younger womenfolk
slept over at the Bates Hotel. Dale and Wendy skipped town
to take a cruise from Hades thru tropical storm Noel.
Rockin' and rollin' in 13 to 16 foot seas and the 40+ mph
winds just about blew Wendy and me off the deck when we
walked outside. Monsoon rains for 3 days. Clear sky by
the time we made Aruba. Arrived home this past Sunday.

Yesterday replaced DPO Pedro's failing starter motor with
a "new" rebuilt Lucas and hit the streets in Amos this
afternoon. I drove 1 hour and 33 minutes today without
a break down or even a sputter-36 actual miles due to
normal local traffic.

164 miles driven since 06 October 2007. Getting ever closer
to the magic 500 mile marker.

201 total miles driven to date without a breakdown or
MAJOR parts falling off in potholes. Now at 8 1/2 hours
total drive time since car purchased 22 months ago.

Got the turn signal issue resolved and the dash put back
together this morning. The Boss wants me to take her
grocery shopping and be home before the Steeler's game
starts. She's a Steelers fanatic.

I suggest: "Let's take Amos".
Boss: "Will Crypty make it?"
I reply: "Yes, Amos will do just fine."
Boss: "Are you Sure Crypty is up to it?"
I reply: "Hop in, we'll see."

72 minutes additional drive time today: mixed bag of
expresso, bumper to bumper local streets and some beach
road.

Amos did himself proud. The Sunday "Bikers from heck" all
admire Amos. More miles driven in one month than the entire
year of 2006 (67 miles drove between many, many breakdowns)
