Good safety point, Don...If we keep him focused on 1 issue at a time, we'll solve this thing....right now he's looking into fuel issues.....the car will run on starter fluid....I think Doc's on the right trail: get fuel flowing to the carb before doing anything else.
 
Durn guys, would love to spend about 15 min with that Midget.

If you pull the dizzy center wire at the coil end you will be fine.
 
If you don't want to pull the coil wire, pull the green and white wire(s) connected to the positive terminal on the coil. This will stop your car from firing, but will have a low risk of starting a fire.

Well, the garage is pretty cool. Its equipped with fir extinguishers, air compression hoses, etc, an second story apartment upstairs. I posted some pics I took of the disconnected garage about 3 weeks ago here:

ICQ number but long ago ran away from it. I'd need to reload Licq onto this Linux box...
 
HOUSTON!! I think I found the problem!!! Ok, so did the gas line test with the jar and turned the car a good 20-30 seconds. Not a drop left the pump. Opened the top of the fuel pump and found gas inside. Made sure the tubes were not blocked, hose is good etc. Looked under the car and the patch seems fine. Tight. No leaks. Hmmm...I thought! I remember that the fuel pump I got is not an exact replacement for the original. I remembered seeing something yesterday in the catalog that noted one model requried a spacer and the other did not. Called Moss to verify the part ordered and I got:

Notice in the diagram it says "DOES NOT USE SPACER #14" and this is for up to a ***1977*** model!

I have a 1979 which requires the unit that has the spacer!!! When I removed my old fuel pump, we left what looks like 1-2 spacers on the block where it connects. I do see gas in the pump and after opening the top and pressing on the center part the diaphragm goes up and down normal. I called for Blane in Moss uspport but he was gone. I spoke to the sales rep and he said they ordered me the wrong pump!! Argh! My guess is it got a very hit or miss or weak sampling off the cam and that's why it only worked sporadically!! Anyway, ordered the new pump tonight, going to disconnect the wrong pump and see if I can't get this baby running and return the old unti to Moss.
The Moss guy gave me the wrong unit!! I have a 1979 and the pump he sold me is for a pre 1978!!! AHA!!!! Do I graduate to Fuel troubleshooting 102 now??? LOL!!!

Lou, if I remember correctly there were two pumps used on the 1500. The original staight lever type that didn't use the spacer, and the curved lever, that did. If you've got the straight lever pump, try it without that 5/8" spacer.

Isn't it wonderful to find the problem.

What Jeff says, seem to remember reading that myself but then have no exp specific on 1500s.
 
K - so now we see what happens with another fuel pump! WHEEEE
 
It;s a curved lever. It took me 5 mins to get off. FUnny how the original took almost an hour with an experienced car mechanic (not nbecessarily and MG guy), but now I got the power! lol

I'm with jeff, remove the spacer, crank it over and see what sort of fuel flow you get. Might as well do *something* while you wait for Moss to correct their mistake!
 
What if the pump does not fit the shaft properly? I thought about that but I did not want to damage anything. Yjos lever remember is curved and the one I need has a straight lever.
 
I think I would wait. Patience is virtue.

Changing cams is a pain.
