It’s my understanding that the 1948-54 Petrol and Series 1 and 2 2LT Diesel used a Lucas M418G starter motor. Is this correct? If so I am needing brush springs for it. Does anyone know who supplies them, and what the original Lucas Part Number is for the springs?
I have a Triumph TR3 that uses a version of this model of starter and have had no luck with the Triumph forums finding a supplier of the correct springs, or the correct Lucas part number. Attached is a picture. You will notice it has only 3 coils, and the center section that attaches to the post has a large hole and large tab. Later model starter springs typically have 4 coils and the center hole and tab are smaller.
I know I can buy a modern high torque starter, but I have spent considerable time refurbishing the Bendix, only to have a $2 spring break.
