speedometer cable and housing

I'm about to install a new cable and housing for the speedometer in my 72 BGT. Do I need to lube the cable first or does it come pre-lubed in the new housing?
 
a little lube wouldn't hurt I suppose. The last cable I got from Moss Motors was not lubed.
 
Don't know that I would use a liquid but instead would use graphite.
 
Graphite powder is good, sure. I typically use a very light oil like Tri-Flow because it seems to last a little longer and helps prevent rust on the cable.
 
Wipe it down with a light oil.

Never assume that parts come pre lubed.
