If I can effect any improvement at all, before biting the bullet and buying a new windshield glass, I'll be satisfied. But, yes, I believe that at some point, a 50-year old windshield needs to be replaced. As I expect this is something I would have to do myself, I'll probably put it off as long as possible.
IMO. I can't say for certain, but I think a glass polisher would be too harsh for plastic. There are special compounds just for polishing headlamp covers.
