Jim, that guy you mentioned that had the car and primered shell on ebay was me :smile: And the yellow car and the shell and all associated parts are on a trailer heading to its new owner, just left the house an hour ago. So I am void of a car, but have the $$ to go up and get the blue rotary car. Now to see when I can find the time to drive 12 hours each way. I think that car is meant to be mine :smile: Hopefully this weekend.
 
Good luck with bringing it home. Going to be fun raking it around the cones.
 
Actually he called after I made my deal and emailed him the good news. He is selling it to someone else tomorrow

Well good news. The fellow selling it talked to the buyer and he backed down, giving me first dibs, as I was the first person to get in touch about it. And apparently he knows of me and how I was selling my two projects to get one that is complete, either from this forum or ? He said he would be kinda messed up for me to sell everything then not have anything to buy. Anyhow, I am lining things up for the 12 hour drive Sunday.

Were you able to sell your stuff through E-bay or craigslist. Actually there was another guy selling two Be's on E-Bay similar to your deal for a little while then the add went away.
Hope you find that the car is exactly as you want it to be and enjoy it for a long time.
 
Guys, help me out with something, his VIN is han9l67536 apparently, that does not sound correct does it?
 
Too many digits. Probably HAN9L67536.
 
Nope. If it were a true Bugeye, it would start with AN5L. HAN9 is a Mk IV Sprite. Maybe it's a Bugeye that someone switched chassis plates on or maybe it's a Mk IV that someone's grafted a Bugeye nose and rear on. I'd be interested to see if it's registered and titled in his home state. If I bought it, I'd want a written agreement from the seller that if I wasn't able to register and title it in my home state, my purchase price would be fully refunded.
 
When I look at the back of the car I don't see that long indentation for the license plate. It is all smooth with the license plate hanging down and not touching at the bottom. All this tells me is that modifications have been made to the rear deck. There aren't any pictures of a straight on front end shot so I am not sure what that looks like. I would say this is not a Bugeye, but a modified something. There are a lot of other modifications, like everything that is under the hood (Bonnet) and the exhaust pipes coming out of where the turn signals used to be. It is whatever you want to call it. BUT, I would wholeheartedly agree with Rick that you should be extremely careful that you will be able to register it in Calif.
 
Ya, I told him I'd pass, registered as a 1967. My guess is salvage title, 1960 bugeye shell found somewhere, put the rotary in it and came up with a 1967 VIN tag somehow that was out of the system. Most likely a very nice car, little doubt. But resale if I needed to get rid of it, not going to be worth much. Too bad, I was looking forward to having it in the garage.
 
There is a yellow with white stripe Bugeye for sale at $15750 or best offer by a dealer in Pleasantan Ca. It has a nice hardtop. I have seen other Be's for sale by this dealer and they have always looked nice. I don't know how far this is away from you, but it has got to be closer than Spokane.
 
I just saw that one. Nice car, but I'd have to swap out the engine and transmission with a 1380/rib case to have enough power for my liking, and not a fan of the paint. I have a line on a 1961 MKII for dirt cheap, maybe I'll build that.
 
There is a blue BE for cheap on E-Bay right now. Mty buddy Tim Bosse just picked up a Flintstone mobile BE last week that he now has running that is going up for sale.
 
If you look at Hemmings there is an old English White 1275 supercharged 1961 BE for sale in Oceanside CA. with an Inquire about the price sign. looks like a nice one.
