Well, I got my Delco-style alternator installed in the TR6 and am quite happy with the mechanical side of the install. My problem is the final wiring. Thinking I am smarter than the experts, I found a really nice double connection that fit my positive post on the battery. The main wire is a 6 gauge wire that I spliced directly to the stock wire, keeping the length the same to the inline junction (which fed my stock Lucas alternator) and on to the starter. The auxilliary wire is a nice 8 gauge wire that (smart me) I connected directly to the "bat" pole on the new alternator, instead of going to the junction with this 8 gauge wire or to the starter solenoid. Made sense to me. Now I am reading on the MAD site that one should not wire directly to the battery, instead go to the junction, something about the voltage regulator reading and adjusting power at the junction, they called this "remote voltage sensing". Greek.
Why not go directly to the battery, the connection is more secure and is only 6" away from this junction. The other recommended option was the starter solenoid, and that is 12" away from the junction. Like George said in "Seinfeld", ..."it's all pipes!" Did I do wrong and should I have wired this bigass 8 gauge wire to the flimsy Lucar (Lucas brand) connector in the black plastic junction box? I think I am OK, the voltmeter pegs nicely at 14+ and the lights are brighter than ever (maybe I cleaned my glasses). As an aside, any chance of overheating any of my stock wires in the harness because of this bad-boy alternator? I repeat adnauseum, I don't trust anything I can't see........
