Need Live Help

Once again, it could very well be what I have, since I didn't get to measure them. Actually, it probably is, with the two shorter bolts.

The GT6 parts guide shows 3 different lengths. 2.25", 2.375" & 3.125".
Pretty much the same engine.
Jeff

I was just in there last weekend, and they are 3 different lenths. 2 would be the same, but that's where the alternator bracket attaches, accounting for that extra 1/8 inch, that Jeff mentioned. When Dale pulls that WP housing off, flips it level and tosses in those 3 bolts, they should all poke out of the bottom equally...

The housing is the same. so unless the bolt depth in the head changed, the bolts should be the same length throughout the life of the 2.5L inline 6 engine.

Completely my bad on this latest fiasco.

Working past exhaustion point, late at night with a
flashlight and small shop lamp can breed diasaster.

I hed to check the bolts this morning-

2 ea at 2.25" 1 ea at 3.125"

And here is why water ran out so fast at the interface
between the pump housing and the engine interface.

It appears I might have used a wrench as the gasket
material

Happy fishing Dale!

Gentlemen - wasn't the coolant pouring out of an empty bolt hole? How's the wrench involved?

OK guys - would someone please explain to me how, after two days and 65 posts, this could be the situation?

T.
PS - is the pulley belt on right? "cogs" on the outside?

DALE, oh Dale ...
How did that get there? I thought that you said that the housing had not been removed. Yes, as Tom said, what about that missing bolt with the coolant pouring out? That spanner was't there in the first picture! Has it been making its way around the interior of the engine and now punched its way through the housing!
I trust that you will be taking Pedro out fishing with you to make up for the DPO comments!!!!
Nick

There are quite a few belts that have what appear to be "cogs" on the outside surface, to make them more flexible.
Dales belt is correctly installed. Look at the picture again. You can see that the vee profile of the belt is positioned properly in the pulley groove.
Jeff

It explains like this....
First try;
replaced waterpump.
Never touched the housing.
after install noticed coolant coming out the hole of the missing bolt in the housing.
Theory: bolt has been missing for a long time, Dale removing the water pump disturbed the housing enough to break the remainder of the seal behind it causing the fresh leak.
Second try; (late at night, in the dark, and exhausted)
Removed housing after not being able to get a bolt to catch any threads.
Found a proper bolt, but diden't have a gasket, so a liquid gasket was used instead.
Result was a massive leak. grrrrrr
Post operative inspection ( the next day, with rest and light)reveals a rogue spanner left jammed between the block and housing over on the side. AHA!!! DOH!!
That's the progression of things.

How could he go fishing at a time like this. 8000 people hanging on every word and dying for the next installment.
This is better that the best soap opera

hope he gets back soon. we have an office pool going on how many times he threatens to send crypty to the crusher. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/banana.gif

You guys are vicious....

But I'll be tuning in for the next exciting adventure of "Dale, Pedro & Crypty, a love triangle turned into the Bermuda Triangle".

I talked to Dale this morning. I think if he diden't go fishing today then the office pool would have changed to "how much did the scrapyard give Tinster for the Crypt car"
The saga continues... Tune in for the next episode "Banjo enters the Bermuda triangle"
Our plane leaves tomorrow at 5:30 A.M.

Don't forget the gasket paper. And grab (3) 5/16 X 24 SS nuts & lock washers for the water pump. It appears that the post office lost my last package to Dale.

It sounds as though Dale needs an entire survival kit, not just some gasket paper and a handful of fasteners. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif

Aw man, would you look at this?

A poor guy takes a single day off to unfrazzle
his nervous system and you guys are jumpin' all
over me. Now I ask you. Is that how gentlemen act?

Give me a freakin' break- I ain't so mechanical lame
I'd install a fan belt upside down!! I used to own a
Corvair Monza Spyder- I have fan belts down to a science.

Ben (Banjo) got the sequence of things perfect.
There is indeed a wrench stuck between the pump
housing piece and the engine. And I never have or did
remove the bloody pump housing.

The missing bolt is my bad from when when I removed DPO
Pedro's failed fuel delivery system. Ben called it
correctly. I got 48 miles of around the block driving
before the seal gave way.

Installing the new pump got the missing bolt hole out
of alignment. I pulled the other two bolts out to get
the alignment correct. Once all three botls in and started
I used the wrench to create a gap where I could put of
TRBill's magic gasket sealer.

Then in the darkness, I torgued the three bolts. With
the freakin' wrench still in place. (unknown by me at the
time)

and ahem...... not mentioning any names here. BUT...
another master TR guru inspected the unit yesterday and
also failed to notice the wrench in the works- in broad
daylight.

The photo is still status. Ben is bring me some gasket
material, at which time I will indeed totally remove the
pump housing assemble and put it back together all cleaned
up and with a gasket.

Uh Ben??? About the beautiful weather conditions for your
arrival tomorrow-when wespoke this morning? Uh.....
well....tropical weather is prone to changes : 4:00 PM

Ahh but it's a warm rain.... I'll take it over this!

For some reason my rain gauge (on the stick in the picture) diden't register this funny cold white rain last feburary....
It was nice and sunny here today, but only got up to around 65 F. Comfortable until the wind started blowin.
