Nasty Healey

I posted a photo of you car at the beginning of this post.
Nice... nice car.
There is a rally next year in Taos..... hope to see you there.
That is if I can make it myself.

...Not sure why replacing motors is so sacred, was it not OK for Shelby, was it OK in Tigers?, MG's etc. Just think of all the wonderful "specials" the world would have missed out on if everyone were purists. Live & let live, and enjoy the diversity!( hope thats not too controversial statement);-)

Tiga--

Nice job indeed. There IS nothing sacrosanct about the engine though that would probably be the last thing I would swap (Wait a minute--since I have done the transmission, clutch, drive shaft and rear end ratio that IS ABOUT THE LAST THING I have left to swap!)

A friend of mine with a 53 BN1 has a small ford stuffed in his car and except for the exhaust note which is a personal preferenc i find his conversion to be very pleasant, so don't let others who are simply located somewhere along the "purity ladder" get you going.

Here's my submissioin--engine with normal "insurance parts" and DW AL head w/fast street headers, Smitty's w/BJ8 clutch, Lempert gear set, and yes NICAL hardtop that will probably wind up becoming at least semi-permanent if not permanent as it is just one more nice addition that makes what some consider the most primitive Austin-Healey into a fine road car which is part of my goal.

What about a Porsche 944 Turbo in a 100-4 and the BMW M5 3,8l in a 106-3000 with Supercharger.
The second is my project in progress and I expect 400+ WHP. Rear Jaguar suspension, Front custom made upper and lower A-arms with coil over adjusteble BILSTEIN shocks with reservoir, Mustang 2 spindle with Porsche 944 turbo brake caliper, NASCAR rotors on stock BJ8 hubs, 7"x16" VTO wheels. And a lot more modification. I work every day on it if I am not doing some bodies else project.
Hope to have it on the road by end off the year.

Don’t know how to place pictures yet, but I will work on it.

Hi Mr JAJA.

On that first picture, I was going to say "someone get that man a shoe-horn and a hammer." On the second, all I can say is "YIKES, it fits!" How is the clearance? I always considered the BMW engine to be a problem conversion due to the lay-over design, but you managed to get it in there.

By the way, in that first pic I can see some of the work you did on the mounting points for the a-frame suspension. Very nice. Will we be seeing this as a Putzkes kit?

One more thing, I've always wondered what the name of your company means. Something German I suspect???

I'll go a step further and point out that Donals Healey always used someone leses motors. The drive train is the part of the cars that was created by others. Trying new motors in a Healey is the spirit of Healeying.

Putzke's as my last Name, FAHRSPASS as driving fun,

As for the upper mount and amstrong shock replacement, I have a prototyp made with Camber and Caster adjustment using the Original A-Arm from the Amstrong shock from billet Aluminum with Teflon bushings and seals. But will some one pay US$ 600.00 for this???????????????

If the time comes, I will instal it in my Original car first and test it.

Most people complain abot US$ 900.00 for 4 custom made Bilstein shocks with all Hardware.

PS. I have a BJ8 Glovebox door with bad outside veneer.

Yikes is right!

Actually, I've given more than a passing thought to using the biggest "little six" from BMW. At 3.2 litre capacity, they're not giving up much to the biggest of the "big six" that you're using.

Somewhere, I wrote down the dimensions, but the S-52/S-54 3.2 Ltr M Rdstr engines (of which I am infinitely familiar) are physically smaller than the Healey's.

I had figured on altering the sump, to allow the engine to sit upraight, as the original does. Manifolding, both in and out, wouldn't be much of a problem (I've fabricated exhaust headers before), especially with the S-54 and its sensual individual throttle bodies.

The S-54 is 315 BHP stock (343 BHP for the M3 version of same), so little need to modify, at least initially...

Giving up some horsepower for the sake of light weight, the 3.0 (M-54?) is all aluminum; both of the 3.2 engines reverting to cast iron for the blocks, as there's miniscule wall thickness between the siamesed bores.

You're doing some quite extensive (and creative) work, and I will look forward to more details as you post them. Good job!

Putzkes-FAHRSPASS: Looks like it works:

Mr.JAJA

I took the liberty of adding image tags, so we don't have to open up the links...

Thank you Randy
How do I get the pictures direct in the Forum?

I live in CA now for almost 20 years and hear only, Bigger is Better, Ours goes to 12, and so on.
So I go with bigger 3.8l, 3.2l is just a "little" bigger.
I also like the old look of 6 inlets and throttle body’s, don’t wont the Vanos.
As for the leaning, this gives me more room for the Magnus supercharger.

First I had the M3 in mind, more tuning parts available and much cheaper, than I say to my self, if I spend the money and TIME, than doo it right.

In German: „Nicht Kleckern, Klotzen.“

Have a nice Weekend

Now you're talking!

To take your link, I put [ img ] (without the spaces) immediately in front of your link, and then [ /img ] (again, no spaces) immediately behind. This is essentially, opening and /closing an image tag.

Give it a try

Thanks for the info on the name of the company. If i ever do the 100/4 project i have in mind, I will be very interested in a replacement front suspension and a rack and pinion conversion. But who knows if i will ever do it.

Thanks for telling me about the glove box door. For ease of shipping, all I need is the metal trim lock cover on the backside of the glove box door. Does your old door still have it? If so, please let me know. I need one.

FYI: "Udo's" ad is on the top-right corner of page 35 in the January 2010 issue of Healey Marque.

I've been seeing the ads for years, but it's always nice to associate the business with the individual!

Hey Udo,

I have already sent you this information by Email, but I haven't heard if
you got it or not. Sorry if I repeat.

There is another Healey owner an hour north of you in San Juan Capistrano
who is also putting a BMW into a 100-6 Healey.

GraumanBMWHealey.JPG

He has built his own upper and lower front arms and is using Chevy
screw-in ball joints and Porsche coil-over springs.

You two ought to get together and compare notes.

Email me if you want his contact information.
You have my Email address.

Tim Moran

He has already completed THIS 100-4 - Taraus SHO conversion.
