Mystery Squeak in Rebuilt Engine

I would push the clutch in and see if the squeak went away, however, I guess it is gone now. I know it is a long shot, but, it sounds like a "magic clutch" sympton to me. As far as the camshafts go, thanks Swift. And, one thing I would do to decrease valve train stress, use the PI springs and collars. The super heavy duty springs are tearing up cams and lifters. As far as the thrush washers go, there is no washer problem, its a pressure plate problem.
 
Yes Searcher, I do have a return spring on my clutch mechanical linkage to avoid such problems and I'm sure that Elysium's mechanic does as well because we discussed it when he came to see me before starting on the car.

Glad to hear the noise is gone and I hope that his FI problems go away soon.
 
Wow,I was almost afraid to get in on my own post for a day or so for fear of getting caught in the crossfire!Searcherman,I did test the clutch in the early stage of the squeak business and found it made no difference to the sound,hence our leaning towards a ring or end gap as the likely culprit. The sound has stopped at present so hopefully we will be free to go ahead with the break in process. Also interesting that your findings are directing you away from the overly heavy springs that are being furnished by some suppliers. As you may recall from our correspondence earlier,the fellow rebuilding the head suggested we go with single outer springs for that very reason. His experience is that you are using(wasting) power to run those heavier springs and ultimately run too great a risk of damage on these "tractor motors".
Now if I can just get this ------- FI system working so I could test some of this theory out on the road.Sent off our scan results to AFI Friday so hopefully someone will have some guidance( and a new chip ) for us tomorrow!

Could be... but Spitfire 1500's don't seem to have similar clutch issues to the TR6 yet both have thrust washer issues.
