Muffler HELP!

We all musta posted at once! It confuzzled me as to the RE: ME with brakelines as topic... I'll go back and finish my Ensure now... Too much line chatter!!! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazyeyes.gif

I found 'em, got everything ordered from John (since that was the directive from dahubby at 5am this morning!)

OOOH hotrod shops. We have 2 or 3 of those right here in town!!! One replaced the straps on my convertible top boot and loved Emma! I'll call them about the exhaust for Binabox later!

"confuzzled" Ahh come on. What color did you say your wings were? Hahahaahhaha!

Janell - I'm gonna go against the flow here (usually do) but unless I'm doing serious modifications to a car, I've found the stock stuff works fine for an everyday driver....as you start to modify things, other things start going out of whack & oon its no longer a daily...if you just want to enjoy her whenever, don't waste your time trying all the shiny, fancy aftermarket stuff - just keep her in good repair

The cars I drive are all stock (except for my '79 Pageant Blue car) & they're all fun...here are the ones in my collection that I normally drive:

1979 Vermillion Red MGB
1974-1/2 Blaze MGB GT
1967 Red MGB GT
1963 Red Midget
1974 Red Midget

&, occassionally, 1963 MG1100

Why, nothin' but th' FINEST Air Force pewter, 'course!!

And for Thread's sake: I've always had good luck with Ansa systems on my cars. Nice fit, good sound. I wish Stebro were still around tho. I liked them better.

And they made a KILLER tip for the Elans.

I ordered the stock system for Emma. Will worry about Binabox after she has some guts and a paint job. Chances are, I'll sell/give Emma *SOB* to Sarah & Rob WAAAAAAAAAAY down the road, stock will be just fine. Has worked for Emma for the last umpteen years!

Had the same stock system on a Bugeye from 1960 to 1991. Only required one new mufler. Maybe I was lucky but they, the stock systems, seem tough.

I love the sound of a Peco Steve, guy in our club has one on his B. I hate the color (not that it would be red all that long) and the fact the paint is going to peel off. And I'm not up to stripping down a new system and painting it black or aluminum.

$20 at the local sandblasting shop, $15 for 3 cans of hi-temp silver or black paint. Or you do like me and let the b*stard peel. I put a chrome tip on the back and no one knows the difference. It actually doesn't peel that badly, just gets a little ugly.

I have the paint...and can sandblast it for nothing...

Ack, but the standard system is already ordered. Moot point.

I believe I saw a stainless PECO system at Btitek. There is a fit problem with the PECO's. I ended up getting a piece made at my local muffler shop to make it work. Painted the cherry red metal black. It's all good now.

Janel - lemme see if I can say it nicely & plainly - Emma doesn't need anything except the stock exhaust! & it'll last 10 or so years if she's kept pretty dry!
Pricewise, there's nothing out there that'll beat that!

Heck, 3/4 of the MG's out there don't need anything other than a stock exhaust! If the owner isn't into serious tuning, all the nifty stainless or big bore exhausts are a waste of $$$'s, IMHO! Other than my V8 car, my GRM car & Jerri's GT all my cars have stock exhaust! & Jerri's GT has Peco header that will ultimately go into locally build exhaust only because I built that engine for power!

JB, what I actually did was order a front pipe from BV. It was poorly made (poor, necked down to 1.5" weld /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/nonono.gif) but fit correctly so I took it to my local muffler shop and had them clone it, then finish up by adding the exhaust pipe and the GlasPak. I opted for 1.75" pipe but the shop boss said I wouldn't gain anything by going 2" but would use 2" if asked.

You should be able to just order the front pipe from Moss and bolt it in place and drive to your shop. It will be noisy as all get-out but it will get you there. Just be sure your shop will work with the Moss pipe. (Or maybe you could order the BV pipe and, if it is as bad as mine was, let the shop use it as a pattern, then return it for a refund. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/lol.gif)

The stock exhaust system is on order.

Binabox will get a bit nicer set up.

If you ordered the stock exhaust system, what are you going to do for a manifold or header now that you've removed the one-piece ZS manifold? The stock system doesn't include a manifold. You can use a stock, 74 or earlier cast iron manifold....and one of your club members may have one laying around you can get for practically nothing.

I have that setup on my car, along with a stock '74 exhaust system. I got tired of the old, loud system that was on there before. Maybe I'm getting old.....

I'm putting the SUs in and I have a cast iron manifold I picked up on ebay for $10, sandblasted it and painted it. And the header was a 'gimme' from a guy in our club.

Do you have the down pipe also? Or did you order a new one?

Rut roh...
