Jack & his show this summer!

haha, u dont wanna see my motor!
red/orange...black oil pan, thermostat,
and head cover....totally custom
i didnt paint the tranny at all ....z

Midget transmisswions aren't supposed to be painted, zimmy - you did good!!

1500 transmissions were painted black I think.

I can not imagine those tags weren't painted. Almost everything on the engines was painted but the ID number.

Doh never mind, Zimmy has a 1275. It's been awhile since he's been around.

....if you look closely, you can see a little of the original paint left on the tag after it was tanked making me think I need to paint it.

Tony, You have an email from me with a photo of the 1098 I sold recently to another list member here. It has the original tag on it and it is painted.

Hope this helps,

Ray

I have had several 1098's and don't remember any of the tags being painted, and that was back when they weren't very old (but my memory also may not be working either!)
Bill

Tony,
I didn't pay a lot of attention to it but seems bare.
I'm still at work but will pop into the garage when I get home and see if I can see any hints of paint left on it (IF it was painted).
I know the history of this engine(Dad bought the car new and never pulled the engine out!!)..so if it has any paint on it..then its original. Can't say it didn't flake off though if there's none..
Will let you know..

Devin

Ray - got your photo

Devin - awaiting your input

I talked with the folks at Mini City today & they seem to think the tag was painted when the engine was painted.

Don't think so - mine wasn't (isn't)

Elsewhere we had this conversation - engines were originally painted assembled - as I recall, a concourse generator is really only painted on one side. Given this, it's highly likely it would have been painted

Was the bellhousing painted black?

OK - just went out to look - the bellhousing is black but it doesn't look painted - almost looks like the casting itself is the color - it appears to be in the metal rather than on the metal

OK... I knew that it looked black in the pictures, I just assumed the whole thing was black.

I'll pull it out tomorrow and post a picture or two

Tony,
Its got green on it! Not much..but you can tell it used to be painted 44yrs and 74K miles ago!
See attached (I hope!)

Yep - looks like it was painted at the factory &, as aluminum is wont to do, the paint didn't last as long as on the block.....so, guess I'll take the masking tape off mine & spray it!

don't forget that's a 1500 tranny!
