I need to see examples of how everyubody painted their engines...out of car...both sides...front/back.

I'm in process of taping mine off, cleaning & priming & I don't want to paint a surface that should be left raw!

Call me tomorrow Tony, I'll walk you through it.

Tony, this is the best I can do on short notice.
Jeff

Thanks Jeff - are your freeze plugs painted?

& what about the 1100 tag hidden by the oil filter?

& I know Jack has a couple!

But why is the generator black. Greeeeeeen like the engine. Same with the lower pully.

Jack, your photos please!!

Tony, the plugs are unpainted, but I'm pretty sure I painted over the 1100 tag, if it even had the tag on it.
That engine is in my California '65, so I can't just run out and take a quick look!

Jack, all of my 1098's have a black generator on them. All of the 948's are green.
The lower pulley is a dampener from a 1275, and should be black.
Jeff

Okies.

Jack - what about the little size tag (mine says 1100) on the carb side down low on the front....is yours painted?

No tag on mine. If there was I think I would not paint it, is it alum and rivited on?

Yep.....Aluminum & riveted on

Do not paint. It was added after the fact I would bet. Just like the engine number, don't paint that either.

Here it is...& I've not done any cleaning since I brought it home from the machine shop....if you look closely, you can see a little of the original paint left on the tag after it was tanked making me think I need to paint it.

I made hundreds of photos of the car as I was disassembling it so I'd know how to put it back together but didn't take 1 of the engine - darn!

I think I would paint that as well. Never saw one before. Wonder what it indicated really?

Maybe someone here knows?

Well, remember this is the 10CC engine - the 1098 that has the enlarged 2" main bearings....its possible they just took the blocks that were already cast & modified them for the new crankshaft & this tag is how they designated it - who knows?

Exactly, I would expect something like that but it would be intresting to know.

Tony
I can't speak for the 948's, but my 1098 is a CG and it has the exact same tag.

Is it painted?

I sold a 1098 last year. I was a front wheel drive that was taken out of an Austin 1100. It had the same tag! And I do not believe that it was painted.

See, this has me on hold!
