MGB-GT MGB GT rubber bumper

Shocking... and expensive. I can't afford them, but he is going to put on the origional ones for the price I am giving him. The owner is going to put them on his other MG. The motor is apart, needs a piston and rings. All other stuff works he has told me. A new project for my son and I.
Ready... $800.00 CDN.

KLUTZ - you are NO 'KLUTZ'....way to go...that car at that price qualifies as a 'theAutoist' find! Way to go - I envy you....

Hey Klutz...

All this turn of events from a quick, innocent peek into an industrial yard to see what car was back there. My what "trouble" we get in sometimes

It's amazing what rare cars hide around in the most unlikely spots sometimes. Pass this one by your wife yet?

Reply to Sherlock:

I have a 74.5 GT in the driveway. I followed the Ebay link in your message and one thing from that car's description raises a flag. My 74.5, as I believe is the case for all USA delivered 74.5's, has twin SUs, not a single carb. I can't help but think his has been modified to some extent.

Any thoughts?

NC Mike,

I just found the E-Bay listing, I'm no MGB expert, but the good thing... there are lots of folks on here who are very knowledgeable. I seem to recall coming across another 74.5 MGB GT on E-Bay since this listing as well but didn't bookmark it.

Anyway... welcome to the forum! Oh yeah and post pictures of your car in Member's Rides for all to see. I believe you're the third member on here now with a 74.5 GT (US-spec), not bad considering they only made about 1,200 of them in LHD.

Welcome to the forum mike. Just a small point of forum use. If you want to reply to a particular person's post, rather that click the "Post Reply" button at the very top, you can also click the quotes " " that you see in the header of each post. Then, it will put that person's post in quote tags and you type your reply under that. You can also delete any parts of the persons quoted text that is not relevant to your reply.
Cheers,
Basil

personally, since there were only 1200+ RB GTs imported I'd leave em original. By the same standard I'd leave pull handle roadsters alone, along with any cars up to about 1967. RB roadsters on the other hand are fair game for about anything

1247 RB GT's, chuck

Thanks for the tip Basil.

While I'm taking a break from work let me initiate a presonal opinion poll.
As stated earlier, I have a 74.5 B-GT. As the car nears a return to use, I'm considering a respray. The car has been in storage since early 1985, late 1984 and is in fairly good condition, but I digress.

Question for the masses . . .

What is the consensus regarding repainting the car: Leave the bumpers black, like they are originally, or color match (paint) them like the abandoned Calgary GT or the tow-behind GT in the earlier posts?

I'm undecided myself, so don't worry about stepping on any toes.

Mike

Erratta alert!

Make that eclectic collection, and around, instead of exlectic and arounf.

Where's spell check when you need it most?

By the way, just where are these posts going? Local time is nearing 1:45 pm, and I just noticed my post time as 9: something AM.

Later,

Mike

Basil's new server is made up entirely of LUCAS electronics.

Welcome to the forum.
Couple things... If you were refering to my car as the "Abandoned Calgary Car," in your previous post, I prefer now to think of it as Vehicle in which some rich looser lost interest in. And, it was Toronto, not Calgary.
I hadn't seen a car like this before I came upon this one, so I am, of course, partial to the painted bumpers. I think the black looks great on the roadsters, but any GT I have seen on the Net look better painted.
To each their own though.
Good luck with the GT.

Sorry about the Calgary/Toronto mixup

As I was saying. . . Good luck with car you've discovered.

I followed a link in one of your earlier messages to a photo of the car. Were those yellow annodized minilites? Kind of hard on the eyes, but as you said, to each their own.

Finally remembered to bring some numbers to work with me.

Vin GHD5UE363112G , manufactured 10/74.

Any idea where that might have fallen in the line of those 1,200-some cars?

Mike

After reading through the posts just now, I realized that my response to TOny never made it. I must have done something wron at my end. Not a problem, but that makes my erratta alert look even more out of place.

As I recall, I commented about his 1,247 1974.5 RB GTs being the most specific number I've heard.

Errata was in a brief history of the car I have.

Belongs to my Boss, Bob (at least until he produces the title like he's promised). Bob claims to have purchased it from a local used cat dealer, late 70's or early 80's. Previous owner traded it against another car citing front-end problems. According to BOb, he removed the oversized tires in favor of some closer to original and fixed the problem.

Car received its last state safety inspection in January, 1984 with about 91,000 miles on the odometer. That inspection expired in Jan. 85, and the registration expired in late '84. The car has been garaged since then.

Visiting the storage site for other work related reasons, I learned about the car and the failing roof on the storage building. After tiring of my repeated comments about the roof falling on his car, Bob told me to take it home if I was that concerned about it.

I better get back to work, more later

I'll try to get some photos together this weekend for the members area.

Mine is #GHD5UE367737G Made in November of '74, so I guess mine had a month less enjoyment.
