MGB MGB Axles & Hybrid Rear End

What'd ya decide to do with the rear brakes, Tony?

Doc, they're still sitting on the bench - gonna decide today...rear end is out - again! Am thinking about a series of holes all around the backing plate to start with...trim extra metal off brake shoes themselves, toss everything that closely resembles park brake mechanisms - & go from there.

I'll bet all the parking brake stuff will add up to alot of weight savings.

You wouldn't believe how heavy the cable itself is! & all the brackets on the rear end & under the car - & the mechanism inside the rear brakes with its spring - & the lever...about 10 pounds total!

Looks alot heavier than a straight axle to me. I think in Tony's case, the weight savings are way more important than having an independant setup.

not only that but I think the IRS setup will blow his budget out of competition...

I've the Hawk setup on my V8 car...however, this is initially being built for the GRM 2006 Challenge & then will be used for SCCA/historic racing...that setup can't be used in any sanctioned racing circuit where a 1968 MGB GT would be run!

Your treatment weighs less, and if you do go for the Historic racing you can use a Watts or DiDion and some anti-tramp bars to keep it where you want... tho a Watts link would likely be as far as you'd need to go, the way it is now.

I'm thinknig the same thing, Doc - & its lighter

I just said that. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/devilgrin.gif

ya know... I think yer current setup may be lighter than the IRS system... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/jester.gif

I'd bet that IRS thingie outweighs the current setup, huh?
