When I got the letters off the side there seems to be some kind of pocket left in the steel. Is this replaceable or should I try to get them out?

Is the "pocket" in the outer surface? I'd be for trying to "shrink" it first: Heat the area well with a heat gun and apply a towel soaked in ice water immediately after. If it's a slight deformation, that could contract the metal enuff to get it back to original shape.

EDIT: Just looked at the post JP set. By "pocket" you mean a retainer for the letters? Or a deformation in the metal?

That part of the body is fine, The letters came off with a little careful leverage with my hive tool ( use to keep bees) Was not sure about the little plastic sock things the letters were pushed into.

Well obviously any tool designed for a B will work on a Midget (see what I did there )

Just doubled the value of my Midget with an order of front suspension parts from Moss.
Seems the PO was a bit of the shade tree mechanic. Notice the spindle nut retainer,

Having got the Midget turned over I can get a good look at the floor pan and the issues I will have getting the floor out. Most of the edges look great it is just the foot well area and behind the seat there is some rust through. It looks like it rusted from the inside out not the other way. When I scrape the tar like underseal off a painted surface is exposed. There is some seam sealer in the front edge seam.
Spot weld cutter or drill for the spot welds?

There is a strange pattern in front of both rear spring hanger mounting points. Like something had been clamped there. I can not remember removing anything there when I got the springs off.

The work has begun.

I have received my floor pans from Ashley Hinton in the UK. They look great and seem to fit well when I held them up to get a quick check on size. I started the floor removal on the Passenger side once I had the door openings braced.
I was very happy with the condition of the frame sections when I had the floor stripped off. Most of them still have factory paint and almost no rust. There are a couple of sections I will have to replace a small piece of panel before I weld in the floor.
All the underside was covered with a petroleum based underseal that seems to have done a great job. It was rusting from the inside not the outside.

The structural bits look amazingly "clean". Congrats on the luck for that. And I'm envious of the shop space you've managed to put together! Well done.

I have been truly amazed by what I am finding as I strip the floor pan off. The old petroleum based underseal really did a good job pity the hood let in so much water the floors rusted like they did.
It is great to be able to spread out a bit.

A couple of days off from the Midget. I have some fire wood that needs to be split and it has been put off for too long. The Pizza oven needs fuel.

I rented a log splitter for a couple of days. Some of the logs I picked up do not split easily despite the claim that they are Oak. One tree was defiantly not Oak most likely in the Hickory family.

The hacked opening is repaired now.

The floor is almost ready for welding. Trying to decide if I want to drill the flanges of the frame and weld from inside or trace the frame onto the floor and drill the floor and weld from the outside. Both options have advantages as far as I see.

Having checked it seems I could reach the frame spot welds so I will do those from inside but some will have to be outside spots.
I have replaced several small areas of the flanges that the floor is welded to. I tend to use a Dremel tool to do the small cutouts.

This is my setup for holding the floor tight against the frame for welding.

Looks great! Though I definitely detect a 'wood' theme here - wood in the fender - wood in the woodpile - wood as a brace - I feel like you are trying to convert this into a Morgan.

Almost got the floor welded in on the passenger side. I will not be spraying Weld Through primer on the joints on the other side. It is causing a lot of splatter as I plug weld. A Google search comments that weld through primer is intended for spot welds using a spot welding gun not plug welds.
I am getting slightly better at welding the long seam along the floor and by the time I am finished I will have it down pat. I have not ground the welds yet. Still working on them.
The angled panel in the foot well is going to be a blast to get to. Not enough room for my light, helmet, welding torch and my head.

Your welds look pretty durn'd good from here. It has been said my welds look like hen droppings. I'm envious!
