Great article, sort of a call to arms. But your stable interests me, an early B and the "successor" to the line a Miata. What's your preference handling wise?

I've driven a few MGBs and a few Miatas. The Miata will, not unexpectedly, run circles around an MGB. The "classic" Miata does have some level of character about it. The newer ones feel lightweight and cheap in comparison even though they are superior cars from a technological and performance standpoint, especially the Mazdaspeed version.

Apples and oranges really, but today as on all days, I feel like having an apple. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

Totally different cars despite being the same dimensions, weight, displacement, etc. Miata has power steering, perfect weight distribution, 4 power disc brakes, modern independent suspension and handles effortlessly without losing one's feel for the road. Almost no one can stay with me in a cloverleaf. The grip is uncanny. Seats hold you solidly in place. MGB with no power steering or brakes, live rear axle, alot more body roll, flat seats, high profile tires, and big banjo steering wheel takes more muscle to drive.

I love them both, but they are very different from one another.

Intersting. Thanks.

I'm starting to look at a second car and aside from an MGC i'd go to a TR4A or TR6. My best friend has an 89 Miata, 1st year I believe. It's definitely the improved B, but I prefer the original myself. It might be more work to drive, but to paraphrase some musician "It's the work that I enjoy." Driving is more fun if you have to work at it, otherwise I'm in my highlander.

MINI Cooper S. It will run circles around a Miata, but it's more expensive.

Excellent resale value, and it's a BMW as well. Mine, and '05 S hatchback, has preformed flawlessly and averages 31 MPG (mostly highway driving).

Fun car.
