When I learn of such forgery, I wish I could find out the chassis number of the fake 100m and who is trying to sell it.

Hey, wait just a minute......don't confuse a "fake" with the more desirable complete restoration. Depending on the model, if executed correctly I'd take it over a "survivor". :tired:

Returning to the original topic...

I enjoyed the statement on the BMIHT website, "The existence of forged certificates came to light after a potential buyer checked the authenticity of an Austin-Healey that was located in Indonesia."

If you've ever been to Indonesia you will immediately recognize the extreme unlikelihood of there being an Austin-Healey there, with the very tiny possible exception of one in some collection where it never sees the light of day.

In any case, the mere existence of a BMIHT certificate should not be taken as irrefutable evidence of a car's authenticity, and in the case of a 100M I would be very sure to check with Bill Meade, founder and registrar of the 100M Le Mans Registry before anything else.

Like Reid states above, check with Bill Meade if it has anything to do with a 100M. This is probably going to happen more now with 100M's exceeding 6 figures on a regular basis. Kind of like the $9995 fully restored Healey's on ebay except worse as you might spend your money and actually get the car and then find out it is not the real thing. With ebay, you'd never even get the car, only lose your money but it wouldn't be 6 figures !!!
