In a quandary

Ho boy are we masters of the tangent...[/QUOTE]

Julian's original post:

<div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Quote:]I feel at a loose end, and am not sure what to do. I really enjoyed working on the GT (Harold), and getting it to a state where it looks good and drives well. I could do more on it, but I don't have the inclination: I'm all "GT'ed out"!

Instead, I feel like I should sell the GT and buy a different car to do up. I bought the GT for about a grand, and I reckon I've spent about a grand and a half on bits and pieces. What would the GT sell for? Would I break even? Do I care (no)? What could I buy next to restore with the proceeds?

I have a short list of cars that I fancy (in decreasing order of desirability):

GT6 (really like this one)
TR6
Spitfire
MGB roadster (wire wheels)

I think a Midget is too small. An old 911 might be fun, or perhaps a 914? Anything else I should consider?

Given my limited capabilities and experience, what do you suggest might be a good next project?

BOXoROCKS,

No, my friend, not a truck but a rather nice Sports Coupe...

Unless you are referring to the performance thereof.. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

Tony,

So, OK.... IN THIS CASE... I sit corrected... but we do have a proclivity for tangets... /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wink.gif

built like a truck...designed by Batman...given to Robin as a bar-mitzva gift. Came with O/D as standard and a calendar instead of a tach.

A true LBC Fan of ever there was one....

I AM TEASING....I really like them also,I really wanted an ES when they first came out. Had a 2 yr old B that I wanted to trade in on it,but they wanted to give me squat for my B. Arrogance a mile high at the dealership.

The Alfa Spiders do seem to be reasonably priced, from what I can see. There's a BIG downside, though, and that is I couldn't come to these forums and get any help!

Sure you could - Doc is always ready with his finger on the "enter" button! Its called "Other Cars Forum"...hehehehe

Too true, Tony. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wink.gif

I MUCH prefer the 105 series GTV's... but I'm OLD. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/devilgrin.gif

I even have PARTS for Alfas, Julian. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wink.gif

Oh I almost forgot... i drive by a run down Ferrari twice a day every day. I ~always~ see it in the same spot; never moves. The thing needs ~looooove~. From the few glances I get, I think it might be a 308GT... I always see it on Canada BLVD in Glendale, CA.

That is criminal! How can such a lovely car be left sitting?

I wonder what the insurance premiums are like on a Ferrari!

DrE, 105 GTVs are terrific, about as handsome as they come, but they are not moderately priced anymore.

I've seen that. Kinda frustrates me that I've owned three of 'em. As with LBC's I consider the '68-9's to be the best of 'em. This rustus rattus I drive has a transplanted 1750CC Weber'd engine outta one.

Julian: Part$ for Italian cars. Hunt up a good Rootes example, say a Tiger. Or just for the experience p'raps a <*shudder*> 'rumph TR6.

So - and I know I'm late here - what if we start with what you want to use the car for? What do you want to do with it?

Sunday 30 minutes drives around town might lead you in a different direction than two day rally events.

Do you need back seats for your intended use?

I REALLY like that comment.... /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/cheers.gif

oh my, I gave the Ferrari a good glance this morning on my way into work. There's a "For Sale" sign on the windshield... It's near Glendale College.

I HIGHLY recommend avoidance. If the diff ain't in need of bearings now, it soon will be if it's sat a while. Nevermind if it even actually runs.
