In a quandary

Julian,

With all the talk about MGs, Triumphs, et al....

I thought you were looking for a Quandary...

I had a 1974 Quandry...Tended to take me places I didn't want to go. The biggest problem was that once I was in it, it was tough to get out of it...

You had one 'o those too???? /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/cheers.gif

I wuz really into the pre-war German cars for a while. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smirk.gif

Th' ol' "Spitzgrummish Anvil and Autowerks" outfit sorta went off th' charts after they foray'd into aeroplane manufacture, unfortunately. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/devilgrin.gif

...parts are a BEAR to find now.

Dr. Entropy,

You are too much, my friend... /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/cheers.gif

I'd go for the Spit w/ a grenade engine...

Driving a car less than 1 ton is fun.
A 1500 lb car is a blast.
Anything less than that is just plain wicked.

Try it and you will never miss the other 2 holes. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/yesnod.gif

How about a German GoGo Mobile. I had one of those.

Julian, You should look at the BMW Z-3 Or Z-5 they cost over $15K but their everything you want in a sports car. I have 2 LBCs and Lucas is my best friend. If I had an extra 19K I would get a Z-3. You could also concider a Jaguar XJS convert, about $11K.

M6 BMW from about mid-80's

Volvo P1800, beautiful, dependable and big enough.
My two öre worth.

Aaaaaaaahhhhhhhh....P1800ES - even better!!!

Tony,

Being a Swede myself.. The 1800 appeals to me also... Would have been a great looking Roadster.... but.. Freaking cold in Sweden most of the time so Volvo opted out of a non-top version.... or so I am told...

Only been there once... Lovely when I was there...

BUT.. Isn't this talk about Beamers and Volvos heresy???? /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/cheers.gif

<div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Quote:] Isn't this talk about Beamers and Volvos heresy???? [/QUOTE]

Nah, I've owned several Beamers & 1 Volvo in my life...right now I'm lusting after an old M6 that's been sitting in one place for at least 15 years!!

I really need something pre-1976 ...

At one time I had a BMW 323i, in the late 80s. It went like a bomb. Had the sports box (for quick shifts), and the sweetest 6 cylinder engine. At the time there were few cars quicker on the road. Excellent machine ... if you put your foot down it sounded like a sewing machine on steroids. I lost it once on an icy bridge in Geneva, foolishly racing a silly Honda. It was a knuckle-whitening experience, but I somehow managed to regain control, and not plunge over the side. The thing was a pig in the snow and ice.

Anyway ... keep those ideas coming! And if you see anything for sale that you think looks like a possibility, I'd be grateful for a heads-up.

Thanks!

Julian - I also had a Euro spec 1984 323i....sucker was fast, you're right!

What years were the P1800 & P1800ES's produced?

Looks like '61 to '74 according to the Svenska 1800 Klubben...

/bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/cheers.gif

I know where there's a P1800 sitting behind a little dumpy house in a dumpy section of town..nose in the air says engine's gone...never moves, no sign of life other than the occassional Camaro parked in the drive....maybe I need to stop in & see what's what when I get back to Alabama.

I pass a P1800 wagon on my way to work occasionally. I believe the owner drives it though. It's never in the exact same spot for more than a few days.

THis is sooo far away from the original topic....

Ho boy are we masters of the tangent...

Anyway. You really need to see this website from the Svenska 1800 Klubben.... a great collection of photos of the P1800 in its homeland....

OK Julian,as long as this thread has been blasphemed, then I am going to suggest a moderately priced car that will make you handsome, young, thin, grow hair and put excitement back into driving home from work. Any Alfa Romeo. A spider most likely, but my choice would be a GTV-6 preferably with the 3 litre engine.

Its hard to beat an Alfa engines sound at 5000 rpms+, exotica on the cheap.

You have my address for the thank-you note.
